Silver Surfer (NES) - As a SHMUP, of course it's going to be exceedingly difficult. No surprise! But Silver Surfer's a big target, he gets hit a LOT! Cool music, though.

I admit it TMNT was difficult. Goonies, Abadox, and Roger Rabbit was difficult on the NES.

tmnt was sure difficult, DIFFICULT TO PUT UP WITH HOW BAD OF A GAME IT IS. It's not total garbage but I wouldn't exactly call it fun either

Atomic Robo Kid if fun to play, but it's hard as nails. All that applying to the arcade orginal. The PC Engine Atomic Robo Kid Special is some how easier, despite the levels being rearranged. What was UPL thinking? They made their conversion themselves...

(The Genesis, Amiga, and Commodore 64 conversions are by other companies. Genesis converted by Treco, and Amiga and Commodore 64 by Activison.)

I played the hell out of the Amiga version of that! I had a cracked version, though, and only had the first disc (it was a two-disc game)... So I battled my way to the end of the first disc then was never able to play the rest. Until later, that is, when I got the Genesis version and was disappointed that the music didn't sound nearly as kick ass as the Amiga version... Still, nice to be able to play the rest of the game....except I don't think I wound up getting much farther than I did on the amiga...hehehe.

Treasure Island Dizzy for NES. You only get 1 life and it can take a bit to figure the game out if you never played a Dizzy game before. But it's also pretty fun. Just, the ending is pretty werid.

Bubble Bobble, and you have to beat it the right way to truly win.

Men In Black on the PlayStation:
around 1 minute into the game, I felt like I hit a dead end: tried getting past this bit where I'm high up and it looks like I need to junp all the way down. Jumped all the way down, and I died. Couldn't go any further.
Tom & Jerry Mousehunt on the Game Boy Color:
Even in easy mode, I couldn't even get past the first bit of the first level: the computer is so fast and always manages to get all the items in his area before you can even make it close to winning.
Men In Black 2: Alien Escape on the PlayStation 2:
There are bad guys almost everywhere and they are always firing. I am like 3 minutes into the first level when my character has taken too many hits and loses a life, and has to restart the level! Even though I was playing the game with the difficulty level set to easy, I always got gunned down so quickly!

I thought Maximo for the PS2 was pretty hard. And I don't think I've ever even made it by the Dam level in TMNT.

Sewer Shark on Sega cd

what the hell ever, I beat that game numerous times as a youngster, in different ways, all just to see the different endings. That game was easier than Splatter House 3

Actually, it only had one ending (you get to Solar City), but depending on your performance throughout the game, the characters would say/do different things in the story segments.

So, as an added challenge, I would often try to get my performance above or below the required levels to see all the different variations of the story. Stenchler in particular (your evil boss) would say/do/eat different things whenever he came on, based on your performance. Actually, if you were doing REALLY shitty, he'd just kill you halfway through the game with a Maintenance Mole. I guess you could call THAT a different ending...hehehe.

I also liked intentionally doing badly just to see how much I could piss off Ghost.

"You're missin' Ratigators the size of BUICKS!"

"SHOOT something!!!" (if you just fly around and don't shoot anything)

I loved the fact that he was the absolute antithesis of those "nice" characters who give you "nice" tutorials throughout the game. Not Ghost - you were scum from the moment you walked through the door and he let you know it at every opportunity. What a lot of people DON'T know (I'm guessing because they didn't play very far into it) is that he DOES mellow out and warm up to you as the game progresses, it's really NOT an exercise in masochism putting up with him the whole way through. That was just another cool aspect to me - you had to EARN the respect of your co-pilot, once again, based on how well you do.

That game has got SUCH a bad rep for some reason. I never understood why, I thought it was innovative and fun! Plus Robert Costanzo, one of my favorite character actors, played Stenchler!

megaman is indeed hard. So hard I got annoyed by it and started playing something else instead.

it is, mostly due to glitches...and the boss fight with the cyclops is absurd if you don't use the elecman trick.

One of the hardest games I ever played had to be Commandos for PC.
Mario games also got pretty hard on the final levels.

Not really hard... just annoying. Like in SMB3, when you have to go through those tanks. You can't just run through it, you have to wait until the Autoscrolling reaches the end. Lame.
