Was better then i expected, when i first saw the teaser poster and trailer i cringed at the idea of them in Hip-hop threads and being quasi-CGI. Then i went to see the movie and thought it was a nice little delight with a dose of humor and a good storyline, it remained faithful to the original 60's cartoon.

I dunno, even from the commercials, it still looks piss poor to me. Of course, I won't see it, so my opinion remains useless.

The kids in the class I assist in last week had to watch it, so I saw some of it. It was okay, but I couldn't really get into it much. The kids, on the other hand, seemed to really enjoy it and I guess that's all that really matters. They're sixth graders.

I'd watch it if it but I wouldn't go outta my way to do so.
Meh. The cartoons were good though
My kid saw it and thought it was good but they don't know the old school style of things.

I took my son to see it. It was agonizing to say the least. Even my 8 year old son was bored.

Hey Greengoblin, hope you don't mind if I comment here instead of posting on "The Alvin Show vs Alvin and the Chipmunks" thread from 2007.

I was a crazy fan of the CBS original series rerun of The Alvin Show on Saturday mornings from 1962 to 1964? (not sure the last year).

My little boy brain was attrached by the remdering style of the characters. Nice heavy-line, solid-color, 2D flat cartooning. Always my favorite as a kid. In my mind complex renderings looked "fakey", if you know what I mean.

Best of all The Alvin Show was funny but notable for what was missing; No Laugh Track!

What all RJ members should know is most cartoons from the late 50's & early 60's had laugh tracks added to them, especially HB cartoons. The Alvin Show was QUIET! Do you get that? Funny and quiet. It was those silent moments that draw attention to the actions of the characters movements. Unbelievable for cartooning which usually bids for economy of motion in characters offset by the soundtrack or dialogue. The former loud, the latter continuous.

Hence my facination for The Alvin Show's filler cartoon by the name of Clyde Crashcup and Leonardo. Classic storytelling plus vaudeville pantomime, sort of. Clumsy, nutty professor Clyde demonstrated his inventions to his non-speaking assistant Leonardo in a physical comedy, slapstick "Red Skelton silent-spot" style that cracked me up everytime!

Maybe RJers can now understand why every other bite of the Alvin apple tastes bitter to me. I really try to like newer stuff but with regards to Alvin I've been to the mountaintop. Everything else has been downhill.

The Eldorado is dead. Long live the Eldorado.

For me, I liked the Alvin Show and Alvin & the Chipmunks (80s). Both are good in their own ways, imo.
