    Junior High Gym-

I (as I'm sure many of you were) was scared to death of the prospect of showering. Before I first saw the locker room I hoped that there would at least be dividers for each shower head, but to my horror no such luck. Well the first couple of weeks I just um..gritted my teeth, but eventually I was able to get away by applying deodorant. The worst thing of all was the damn physical fitness test! What made them so bad was the twelve minute run. Our coach always picked either the windiest morning or hottest afternoon to get us out on that track. We had to grab straws each lap we finished so no one would lie about how many they did, although a few were actually dumb enough to get caught trying. We also did social dancing; not line dancing, but real formal dancing. It wasn't as bad for me as you may think because I took the necessary precaution of never wearing sweatpants on those days!! It wasn't all that bad however because on the last day of eighth grade we played flag football and coach let me be the " captain" of one team.

    High School Gym-

HS gym kicked ass!! why? Well, "quite simple 99!" as Maxwell Smart used to say. Our gym teacher happened to also be the football coach so he did not have time for real lesson plans. He only had three rules 1.) show up 2.) dress and 3.) participate (or at least pretend to). The curriculum went as follows: Dodge ball, racket ball, flag football, table tennis, and occasional weight training ( but you had the alternative of going outside or to the gym and "power walk")

we never had to shower once in all my years of gym. However, most of us (including me) used the shower to rinse the chlorine out of our hair during the swim unit. and yes, we kept our bathing suits on.

Most guys don't wanna use the shower in school because they're afraid somebody might see their wiener. I don't know what happens after they see it. Something bad I guess.

I liked gym class up until middle school. Kindergarden through fourth grade gym consisted of volleyball, dodgeball, basketball, bowling (an unusual form of bowling with lightweight balls and these carpeted alleys), obstacle courses, and playing with the giant parachutes. Everything I thought I knew about gym class got more brutal in middle school. I had a few bull dyke gym teachers up until 7th grade when I had my first male gym teacher since 4th grade, Mr. Brewer. Gym glass got a little bit better after that but since I was never the most athletic kid (I also have flat feet), I still hated it. The best things I could remember about middle school gym class were Basketball Week, Archery Week, and Olympic Obstacle course week. High School gym class was roughly the same experience except I was older and I only had to take gym class for the first three years of high school. And if I ever thought middle school gym class was bad, I should've just as well guessed again as to what high school gym class would be like. I thing remember most about High School gym was how much I hated the mile run.

NO ONE showered in my JR high or HS. Acually I don't remeber there even being showers in our HS locker room. WE had them in JH, but no one used them. I think showering at school must be a western and northern US thing because I don't know of any school in the south that makes you shower at school. Even those who were in after school sports waited until they got home to shower. Something just doesn't sound right about a bunch of guys necked showering together. Not only that those showers give you athletes foot! Just showing your private parts peeing was considered wrong where I grew up. I mean is it really necessary to shower at school? I don't remeber there being an overwelming smell from the guys after PE. Remeber too it's allot hotter in TX than say CA. After all we did change into gym clothes and most of us put deodorant on.

They always show the guys showering at school after practice in the movies. Can't they just wait until they get home? BTW I never like the whole lockeroom scene showers or not.

I never really had Gym Class in MS or HS. The only time I had gym was in elementary, and we never played games that worked up much sweat, or required you to wear anything that you didn't have on when you showed up.

In MS and HS I played all the sports, so I didn't take gym, and in MS we didn't take showers because we didn't have any. But in HS I was introduced to "public showers", and I didn't enjoy them. It wasn't the public nudity that bothered me, although I wasn't real psyched about it, but rather the horseplay that went on in a shower populated by a bunch of dudes. Long story short, somebody pissed on my foot for the sake of humor.

Are you implying that simply seeing a naked guy makes you gay? If you go gay from seeing a naked man, it implies you were already gay to begin with.

At my junior high school, the boys and girls were split into two separate classes, each with its own teacher. Unfortunately my gym class did have a three-week swimming unit, and the pool was across the street at the senior high. Most teachers were pretty understanding if students were a few minutes late, but it was still a pain in the ass to dry off quick, get dressed, and run all the way to your next class. I think we all enjoyed this unit a little more when the girls' class joined us in 9th grade

I transferred to a smaller school for 10th - 11th grade, and the PE teacher didn't care if I participated or not. In 12th grade we were supposed to have a health unit in conjunction with PE, but he spent maybe two or three days out of the whole year on it. Most students didn't wear the required uniform--they wore whatever t-shirt and shorts they wanted to.

    Perpare yourselves.

Junior High - cool. My JH still had recess! Yes in JH we still played games with GIRLS! The greatest baseball, football, soccer and tennis ever! JH rocked.

High School - bummer. My High School was the city-wide sports powerhouse! It had the full service "Stalag 13" concentration camp style GYM Facilities! Yes that means no privacy at all for any bodily functions. The shower hall was like a beef processing plant complete with hooks! I swear! Go ahead, shower with Jason, he likes you!

My high school gym class was like US Army 101. But the worse was "The President's Council on Physical Fitness". They created that week long touture test of comprehensive examinations that culminated with the "Mile Run". All I needed was a number tattoed on my arm so I could get sympathy from a prisoner of war camp survivor. Bad memories a-plenty!

LOL, I actually had a failing mark in one term in gym in grade 8. I am not athletic, and gym often bored me.

In middle school, we did not normally shower in gym, at least I didn't. I don't recall if the changerooms were even equipped with showers. Boys and girls changed separately, but gym was co-ed.

In high school, I only took physical education in my freshman year, the only year it was compulsory. There were showers in the changeroom but I don't concretely recall ever using it, at least not stripping naked and showering with other boys. Maybe I once used a shower to wash something? I don't recall the others doing either, though I would imagine that people who were on various teams etc would have done differently after, for example, a real football game.
