    Both are totally different, but E.T. was huge for its time.

    I say E.T. all the way

    Titanic was stupid as fuck, the only part I liked in it was when they hit the iceburg(the only time I thought Leo was... sorta cool, how he beat that dude down for almost drowning his girl)

    plus why do you think he choose to die instead of getting on the big door? wasnt that a big door? maybe room for two people???

    Family Guy(first Season, the best) answered what most of us was thinking(remember a life without death, and Jack didnt die and rose says"Now you can do all those things you promised" and Jack says "... uh yea I was pretty sure I was going to die. anyway thanks for letting me draw you naked, lol I still cant believe you let me do it"

    Am I the only one who likes Titanic more than E.T? Sure, E.T had a cute story behind it, but it scares the crap out of me.

    Now, if Titanic focused more on the history of the ship than the lovers, do you think people would like it better? I think that's what puts most people off is the "Lovey-Dovey" aspect of the film.

    In my opinion yes. I was hoping for a movie about the actual ship. When I heard it was just a love story i refused to watch it and I did for over 10 years and I finally watched it for the first time a few days ago. That what led me to start this topic. It genuinely pissed me off and I wanted to see other people's opinion.

    First both are great movies that cannot be compared

    But one is about a story, a very well done story but it is a story not based on fact

    Titanic is based on a real tragedy in american history that many people care about and it is on our hearts just as princess diana is.

    Yes, the movie had the love story with kate and decapero

    but that's not what I am looking at, I am looking at what the movie did as whole

    what it did was recreate history in a way that the movies before it could not.

    the sets were one example, famous historians and those would studied the titanic thought they were on the real titanic. And that's because great care was taken into account when making the sets, costumes that really made the event more real then it had ever been before.

    Also if my word is not enough, I am sure you remember the oscars

    The 11 Oscar Winners

    * Art direction - Peter Lamont, art direction; Michael Ford, Set decoration
    * Cinematography - Russell Carpenter

    Most Oscar Wins

    * 11 Titanic 1997
    * 11 Ben-Hur 1959
    * 10 West Side Story 1961
    * 09 Gigi 1958
    * 09 The English Patient 1996

    * 13 Forest Gump 1994
    * 13 From Here to Eternity 1953
    * 13 Gone With the Wind 1939

    E.T. is a great story and a true 80's classic

    but when it comes to well done reenactment of American history vs. a heartfelt story about an alien.

    only in fairness, and out of respect of those who passed on in the titanic tragedy do I say
    titanic. Even thought my favorite is e.t. I say that titanic is more deserving of the spot

    Titantic was a love story that particularly appealed to certain woman. I have read about many women who had seen the movie 50 or 60 times back in 1997. Very few movies have had that dedication from its fans. ET had more hype in the early 80's. I remember every other commercial was an ET commercial but you never saw ET...just a finger

    Like I said, "right place at the right time." If the film actually concentrated more on the tragedy than the romantic interest, then it might have been more deserving of knocking E.T. out of first place.

    Theres a 15 year difference of box office interest between the two films. E.T. came out in 1982 when tickets were cheaper, but more people went to the theater to see it. Titanic was released in 1997, tickets were more expensive. Thats the the thing they never factor in; people and repeat viewings.

    And Kate Winslet has a much better nude scene in Heavenly Creatures.

    Actually, adjusted for inflation, the -worldwide- grosses of Titanic are still ahead of E.T. and ranks third all time (behind Gone with the wind and Snow White).

    As far as US only grosses, though, yeah Titanic is behind E.T. at #6 (E.T. is #4)

    I think that making "Titanic" just a love story and not focusing on the tragedy is kind of missing the point. I mean, what if in 100 years they make a "9/11" movie that's just a rich girl/poor boy love story set against a backdrop of 9/11? It would be just plain irreverent. Same deal for what they did with Pearl Harbor, and Pearl Harbor was rightfully called out as the hunk of garbage it was, but nobody seemed to do that with Titanic.

    E.T. and Titanic are two completely different types of movies. Titanic is a drama film about a real historical event peppered by a steamy love story. E.T. is a Sci-Fi film about a fictional alien from another world who gains the love of a young boy and his family. Essentially they're both love stories but they're very different. I honestly think Star Wars should still be on top for highest grossing movie ever but you can't change those records for ten to thirty year old movies. I'm sure somewhere along the line, a "Titanic killer" will come along and topple the record set by that film. Maybe not in this decade, but maybe in the 2010's...

    you have to remember that tittanic was not just a love story. it also follows the 2 people who were on the tittanic. i think that it shows what happened pretty weel.

    I like ET better....the first ET...not that go back and take out the guns crap that Spoilberg did later

    But don't worry....the way Hollywood is running out of ideas and doing remakes it won't be long before we get a ET remake done.Maybe than it can retake the number one spot.
