Conversely, I could say that if you managed to watch the entire series willingly, it can't possibly be painful enough to be called the worst cartoon ever. And yes, I've watched Tenchi In Tokyo, unfortunately.

Anime isn't even a real style or genre in the first place, so you're absolutely right that lumping it together is stupid.

Who are you to make that judgment? And I said it was "unfair" to group all anime together, not "stupid".
Garfield: "My car is so old, that it's insured against theft, flood, fire and dinosaur stampedes!"

Garfield: "The local bus transit is doing their part to help with the weight loss program: each year, they stop further and further away from the curb!

As far as "deciding" what makes the worst cartoon ever, which is the topic of this thread? Same as you or anyone else, I guess. If you can say that other people have poor criteria for choosing the worst, then I can say that you do too. Fair's fair, after all. In my opinion, I've seen far worse stuff than the admittedly awful Tenchi in Tokyo, and I know I couldn't force myself to watch an entire season of those. It's not like I'm attacking you or anything. I'm just presenting a different angle on what you said, for the sake of discussion.

My apologies. On the other hand, it's not smart to be unfair for no good reason, so its about the same to me.

No, he meant to say emulate, which is similar to imitate, but you try to do it just as well as the original/of equal quality.

Well Imitate seems to be the more Proper term to Use!

I meant "emulate". Kids might play out scenes from their favorite shows for fun (emphasis on the word "play"). That would be a form of imitation. But they're not going to become like the characters on TV (emulation).

The point is kids aren't going to pick up any more violent or antisocial behavior from most of today's cartoons than we learned from the junk we watched in the '90s, '80s, or any farther down the line.

The only thing I didn't like about Tenchi in Tokyo was the art. Oh, and Sakuya's character.

Did you take into account the actual time period the series is taking place in or the attempted culture? The impression I get from the commercials I've seen for this series, is that it is supposed to be "the old days", where girls were seen as nothing more as child-bearers and house-cleaners. They're probably just trying to be accurate in that sense and most series where it takes place back in an ancient time or so, will have the guys thinking in such a sexist way to be accurate with the thinking of the time-period. Now if it was supposed to be modern-day, then I'd be complaining.

Xiaolin Showdown being stupid and poorly-drawn made me stop watching it, so I can't speak for the episode you're talking about, but I've noticed that in a lot of today's cartoons, sexism is deliberately brought into the story so that the writers can show that it's wrong, unfair, and hurts people. If the sexist is one of the "good guys", he usually ends up getting humbled and has to change his views. That's not something I remember happening a lot in cartoons when I was growing up. Female characters were either treated as equals or they weren't, and it was rarely talked about. I think the current approach of addressing the problem specifically is much better. If you want some great examples of anti-sexism episodes, you should check out Avatar: The Last Airbender.

If your main problem with new shows is sexism, why on earth was TMNT on your list? The new April is smarter, more courageous, and more competent and helpful than in the Mirage comics and the old cartoon put together, and the turtles all respect her. Karai is also a strong character. She's a good enough fighter to hold her own against all the turtles at once, has a strong sense of honor despite being raised by the Shredder, and is especially respected as an equal by Leonardo despite technically being an enemy. The only sexist on the show is Casey Jones, and there's rarely a moment that it isn't made clear that Casey is a dumbass and that he's wrong. He's a fun character, but out of all the characters in the show, I don't think he's one that kids would want to be like.
