I am going to say it was the mid 90's this aired, 96 at the latest. It was an infomercial that played real late at night all summer long.
Instead of it being the usual "Order NOW!" infomercial, it was more set up like a sitcom and told the story of a family getting their first Macintosh computer. It was mostly told from the point of view of the youngest son and he narrated it (kind of like The Wonder Years).
The commercial showed how each family member used the computer in a different way. The one thing that stands out in my mind the most was the widowed Grandpa had met some women online and at the end of the commercial he meets her in person.
Like I said it played all summer long and I was up most nights. I was 12 at the time and seeing it ever night made me want a Mac so bad. We used them at school but the commercial showed things you could do that the school never would of allowed. About a year later when it came time for my family to get our first computer I pushed hard to get a Macintosh but we ended up getting a regular PC.
It was only until recently that I got my first Apple computer ever and I am enjoying it very much. The first thing I thought of when I took it out of the box was that old 90's informercial about the Macintosh. Weird how some things just stick with you.
So does anyone remember it? I would love it someone else did, and eve better knew where I could find it. I checked YouTube but no luck.
Well at least someone remembers it besides me. I did not know that when it was made Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy. I know that had a lot of products out at the time, more then that could handle and that most of them were junk.
My god, there so many funny things about this thing I dont even know where to start. I think the funniest thing to me is how much time the family spends on the internet and how the infomercial just happens to skip the part where it costs like 8 bucks a minute. Times certainly have changed since this video.
I remembered watching the commercial on YouTube most of the time.
I currently own a Power Macintosh desktop computer in my bedroom which it does play DVD movies as much as CD-ROM games and MP3 files. It also had Microsoft Internet Explorer included.
I also own CD-ROM games that are for Macintosh
