I just read about that on Yahoo. I can't believe things have gotten so PC and candy-coated that the original Sesame Street is now considered "adult material." Maybe these people should go back and watch something like Gremlins to get an idea of what a real for-kids-that-really-shouldn't-be-watched-by-kids-show/movie is all about. Last I recall, no one ever pushed Ernie into a running mixer on Sesame Street.

Just goes to show you that each generation wouldn't last if they had to grow up in the previous generation. I watch Sesame Street with my kids many nights and I see how each segment seems to be shorter and more activity to it. No wonder kids don't have the attention span they use to.

That's what happened when Elmo took over the show!

Stupid soccer moms, I grew up watching Ernie and Bert in the same room and I'm just fine. Now I see Sesame St. and its 45 min of Elmo, and 15 min of everyone else. I even went to Sesame Place when I was little. But imagine what it looks like now filled with Elmo.

I swear to God. Where, oh WHERE has the world gone???? I read that on Yahoo and I swear I thought it was some sort of parody. No joke. The old, "innapropriate" Sesame Street actually entertained and educated kids. The new Sesame Street is mostly Elmo's World, has short and pointless segments, and has a guy named Dr.Feel.

Things are too friggin PC now. I need a Fanta break.

I didn't know the show was originally aimed for inner-city black kids, or that the characters were so "depressing" and "crazy." Kids don't have that perception about the show - they just enjoy the characters.

Sometimes I wonder if these "adults" still want somebody to parent them, so they look to the media for that.

Kids change. Generations change. What may have been fun or exciting for kids 30 years ago isn't necessarily going to cut it today, what with the proliferation of iPods, video games, the Internet, etc.

Not saying it's a good or bad thing, but, you know, it happens.

The ironic thing is that the old DVDs were made primarily with people like us in mind- grown ups nostalgic for their childhoods.

We have it on dvd and i put it on for the kids for two reasons, a) they really truly enjoy it, b) to protest. It's Sesame Street for crying out loud, unless it shows people getting mugged or shot and blood splats everywhere, kids can watch it IMO.
