For how long of a time period at once have you left one of your gaming consoles with the power on?

For me I'd have to say a full week.

What about you. Have any of you left it on for so long that it actually hurt the system?

The only thing I can think of right now is overheating. As long as its kept cool, I don't see a problem. But that doesn't mean there won't be one.

I always make a habit of turning my consoles off when I'm not using them, The truth of it is. Any piece of electronics has a life span. The more you use it. The closer it comes to its eventual death Via wear tear.

It seems logical to me, To want to turn something off when not in use you will own that piece of electronics much longer that way.

A good example of a system that should be turned off is the wii, It has a stand by mode in which the system works with wii connect 24. However while the system has power the fans don't operate to keep the system cool.

Many a wii have went the way of the dinosaur by leaving them in stand by mode.
    it fry's the video.

Oh well to each is his own. You bought your console for your own needs. Please feel free to use them in any way you see fit

But if you want them to last a great while. Id suggest taking proper care of them. And turning them off when not in use.

I literally left a Playstation on 2 weeks before. It was after I saved a game on FF7 then went on vacation, then went to camp. Worked fine afterwards. Haha, I'm surprised I didn't start a fire.

I turn off all of my systems as well. I disabled the Wii-connect 24 feature when I got mine. I read about all of the over heating of the systems. But if you want to leave it on, it's up to you.

I always leave mine on overnight then turn it off the next morning. It ain't me payin' the electric bill so I don't have to worry about it.

One time I left my original Xbox on for almost a week. I had set up a slayer rockets match in Halo and had twisted the cord around my controller in a way so I would constantly be committing suicide. I think I got up to like 10,000

I wouldn't leave on anything like the PS3, XBox 360, or a Wii on any longer than a few hours at a time (That's me being super careful though) due to the fact that they, especially the PS3, get pretty hot back there and may cause problems if they don't have "cool down" periods.

The longest I ever left a consol on was a Playstation all day. I put in on pause and shut off the TV, so I wouldn't be yelled at for leaving it on. Well, I forgot about it and by the time I remembered it was pretty late in the day.

The worst I've had was leaving the N64 on all day long after I went on a little vacation. I'm always worried if I start a fire if I leave a game system running longer than a day.

One time, I was playing Final Fantasy VII (c'mon, I was in fourth grade in 1998.) and I actually fell asleep while the game was still on. I woke up next morning to see that the game was still on, and when my brother came home from spending the night at a friend's house, he was pissed. Then I died, and I had to do everything I did last night over.

I always do that with my Playstation 2. Especially when I have to leave to go somewhere.

I left on a PS2 Slim on all day.

It ended up breaking because the small ass air vents.

Sony's so dumb for not manufacturing the original PS2, but I'm dumb for keeping it on all day, so it kind-of works out. :p

i used to leave my Dreamcast on when i was trying to gain points in training mode to buy characters on Marvel vs Capcom 2. It was easier than going through the game countless times and my system still works fine to this day.

but the slims were easier to manufacture and cost less, but the fact that they don't have fans in em...i played one game a while back that I got addicted to for a full day as well and the game froze...luckily i saved just in time, i just reset and played a few hours more and the console was just fine, lol

PSTwos are better because there's none of that 'disc read error' crap the PS2's been known to have.

However... is it me, or does the PSTwo like to leave Laser Burns on PSX games? Sometimes I'll be playing it, and I'll take the game out when I'm done, and I'll see a small laser burn. =/

a friend of mine used to have a dreamcast. he left it on for a whole day on accident once and the engine burned up. since his dad had a number of great games of his own for the system, he got grounded for more than a month and bought a new dreamcast soon after

I think the longest I ever kept something running, was my Super Nintendo when I was playing Super Mario World. I had just gotten to that cave area after beating the second castle, and I didn't want to cut it off, so I cut off the television, and went to bed. The next day was a school day, so it stayed on all day, too.

After my hw, I went back to playing it. I know I've done it also when I first got to that center star in Star Road, but it wasn't for as long. It was a Saturday and I had to go out with my mother someplace. I just turned off the TV and left it. Came home a couple of hours later, and noticed the music was different and I was like, "Cool!!" lol
