Voltron was made in Japan but World Events Ltd distributed it here in the States.

The characters for the Transformers were designed here in the States but animated in Japan due to cheap labor.

G.I. Joe was designed here in the U.S. first but was later animated in Japan.

Interesting side note: Both animes feature the voices of Peter Cullen (King Alfor, Commander Hawkins, and narrator on Voltron; Optimus Prime and Ironhide on TF) and Neil Ross (Keith and Pidge on Voltron; Bonecrusher, Sixshot, Slag, and others on TF).
