i remember pogs really well... and then i remember playing an innocent games of pogs with kids until they broke out their friggnin like 10 pound slammers... and then they got banned from school like every other cool thing ever
I thought Pogs were stupid, but I still bought a 100 pack with 2 slammers anyway. When everyone has 'em, and you're in grade school, you gotta be cool and have at least some so you can talk about them and and not look like a dork.
I didn't realize it was a game at the time (I had graduated college so what you guys were up to in grade school...<shrug>.......
POGS I think were one of the things that led to the comic crash in the mid 1990's....too much "collectible junk" to blow money on at the local comic shop.....collectible comics with 4 different covers, far too many "collectible cards"....those card "games" like Magic, and then pogs.......which are as close to selling "pet rocks" as we've come since the 1970's.
Yeah, the whole collecting pointless things is really over done, IE: Pokemon, Yu gi oh (all card captor things), Pogs, etc. If you start collecting something, I think you should collect things you find valuable, not because other people might find them valuable.
I had some remember when you could buy them in packs like trading cards? I use to get some in the pack with my power rangers trading cards. My aunt gave me a whole bunch of those world cup '94 ones. My neighbor was the one who got me into pogs when I moved to my then new house.
I remember those, though I never really took an interest in them. Back in '94, a good friend of mine worked at a manufacturing/distribution warehouse. He was allowed to keep some of the extras, misfits and misprints that would normally be thrown away. I wonder if they're actually worth anything today.
