Hey guys it's me again Warriorman, for months now I've been wanting to write an article on my favorite game Trilogy Metal Gear Solid. I know MGS isn't that old of a game, even though it had 2 game realeses on the NES, but I want to write about the new/old trilogy that began in 1998 with Metal Gear Sold Tactical Espionage Action. I want to start however in the very begining, No not the 1998 realease, but instead the 2004 realease Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater just so everyone can get up to date before I start the 98' realese and it's sequal MGS 2 Sons of Liberty.

Ok here we go with the begining of the story.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater.

We start out with Jack (Code Name Naked Snake, and later on Big Boss) father of Solid,Liquid and Solidius Snake who were not even in existance than, in an airplane smoking a cigar and gettin ready to jump into Russian territory. Metal Gear Solid 3 is set during the Cold War in 1964, where Naked Snake is sent to the jungles of the Soviet Union. Aided over radio by Major Zero, Para-Medic, and his former mentor The Boss(or just Boss as he keeps calling her in the game) his mission is to rescue a defecting Russian scientist named Sokolov who is secretly developing an advanced nuclear-equipped tank called the Shagohod which he must later destroy with his bare hands(with the help of a Stinger Missle Launcher). The mission was going alright and smoothly until The Boss defects over to the Soviet Union and provides her new benefactor Colonel Volgin with two Davy Crockett miniature nuclear shells. Sokolov is captured by the Cobra Unit(all of which wered trainned by The Boss before Snake/Jack) while snake attempts to figure out why his own mentor was defecting. Snake is heavily injured in combat with The Boss, he just couldn't fight, and she eventually throws him over the bridge with everyone watching her. As snake goes over he grabs the Boss' grey bandana(which can be seen in all MGS games on snake's head), before falling to what seemed to have been a certain death allowing Volgin and his cohorts to escape with the Shagohod. The next cutscene shows an injured snake fighting his way onto land because he has broken legs and one arm. He finally reaches land and sees the helicopters flying over with the Shagohod connected, The Boss is shown raising her arm out to the land from the sky, and even though snake can't see it he raises his good arm up in response just knowing that The Boss was doing the same thing. Volgin than fires and detonates one of the nuclear shells to cover up its theft, which is subsequently blamed on The Boss after finding out she had defected. Snake is than seen trying to cover himself up before the blast.

Having detected the US aircraft which deployed Snake flying over Russian soil, the Soviet Union declares the United States responsible for the atomic attack, tipping both nations to the edge of a nuclear war. In a secret conference between US President Lyndon Johnson and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, a deal is hatched to prove the US's innocence and restore peace. The United States agree to stop Volgin's renegade faction, destroy the stolen Shagohod and eliminate the American defector, The Boss.(Snake's new Mission after returning again).

A week after being rescued from the region, Snake is redeployed into the Russian jungle as part of Operation Snake Eater, to fulfill the United States' promises. During the mission, he gains the assistance of another American defector, ex-NSA agent EVA, who defected a few years earlier. After numerous encounters with the elite Ocelot Unit (led by Ocelot,who later becomes know as Revolver Ocelot) and defeating every member of the Cobra Unit, Snake succeeds in locating Sokolov and the stolen Shagohod, only to be captured in Volgin's military fortress, Groznyj Grad. After witnessing the apparent death of Sokolov, Snake is tortured almost to death, but escapes with the help of EVA. In the Process of the toture a small gun fight breaks out between Boss, Eva and Ocelot. The fight ends when Ocetlot is about to shoot EVA but a badly beaten up Snake still has enough strenght to swing himself into Ocelot taking EVA out of harms way, but instead of the bullit hitting EVA Ocelot Fires his gun and the bullit skimms across Snake's eye and than followed up by the hot barrel of the revolver coming into contact with snake's eye as well burning him and causing snake to go blind in his right eye which is wear Snake/Big Boss donned the eye patch in the game/pics of the later story's in the series. Once Snake breaks out of the holding cell by faking his death with a death pill implanted into his top tooth, he fights his way out of the fortress with a fork(Yeah it was pretty funny when I seen it too). He makes his way down into the sewers where he is chased by the fortress guards and Ocelot before diving off the cliff into the water very far below. When snake wakes up(He is actually dreaming) he is confronted by a dead member of the cobra's who was killed by Boss, revealing himself to be The Sorrow, the Boss' lover.(I don't want to spoil too much of the story for those of you who haven't played the series so I wont say any more about Boss killing Sorrow). Snake eventually defeats The Sorrow(Actually he wakes up), and finds himself in the nicest and most beutiful forest setting in the game, with rainbows, animals, birds and tall green trees and a crystal clean river. He meets up with EVA at the waterfall who gives him his weapons and equiptment back(After they.........Well you know if you played the game).

The Eyepatch worn by Snake/Big Boss

When Snake returns to the facility once again VIA underground tunnel to this time destroy the Shagohod, Snake learns of The Philosophers Legacy, made up of the most powerful men in the United States, Soviet Union, and China. They are an Illuminati-like organisation who control the world behind the scenes. However, after the end of World War II, they began to fight amongst themselves, and the organization brokedown. The money, $100 billion, they had amassed to fund their wars, called the Philosophers Legacy, was divided up and hidden in banks all over the world. Volgin had illegally inherited this money, and Snake learns that the US is attempting to retrieve it as well. Snake continues his mission, destroying the facility and the Shagohod tank, and killing Volgin after stalling him long enough for a lightning bolt to strike him down.

Snake and EVA travel to a lake, where a ground effect vehicle (actually an Airplane like vehicle) is hidden. Snake however knew his job wasn't done, he still had one thing left to do........KILL THE BOSS. EVA than confronts him and tells Snake The Boss is already at the lake waiting for him.(this is where the whole story all comes togather). Snake confronts his old mentor, The Boss, whom he must kill to complete his mission. After an emotional battle, Snake overcomes his feelings and defeats her. One of the strangest cutscenes than starts. While Snake and Boss are talking, all the battle scares the boss has including the one from her baby with The Sorow, slither away like snakes and leave her body fresh and clean and all the flowers turn from white to red in an instant. Than another cutscene plays where snake must shoot Boss in the Head, when he is ready. The strange part is you control snake, and he doesn't shoot until you hit the fire button.

Snake and EVA escape to Alaska, and spend the night together. During the night EVA disappears, and leaves behind a tape revealing herself to be a Chinese spy sent to steal the Philosophers Legacy for China. The tape continues, and EVA reveals that The Boss did not actually defect to the Soviet Union rather, she was under orders to pretend to defect so she could infiltrate Volgin's ranks and find the location of the Legacy, which could be brought back to America. The final part of her mission was to sacrifice her honour and die at the hands of Snake, under the guise of a traitor, to prove the US's innocence in the nuclear attack from the beginning of the game. The tape continues to play and EVA said although Boss was a hero for saving the U.S, she will actually go down in history as a War Criminal, and the only 3 people that would actually know the real truth would be Snake, EVA and the U.S Government who sent her.

When Snake arrives back in the U.S he meets the President of the U.S and is awarded the title of Big Boss for his efforts, and defeating The Boss. Later, he arrives at an anonymous grave site, The Boss' supposed grave, just one of thousands in the huge military cemetery he visits. Laying down The Boss' gun and a bouquet of lilies upon the nameless gravestone he scans the endless rows before him, salutes, and sheds a lone tear, but the game is not finished yet. After the credits roll, Ocelot is heard talking (a telephone conversation) and reveals that the microfilm containing the information on the Philosopher's Legacy given to EVA was a fake, that Ocelot himself was ADAM,the U.S spy working in the Soviet Union. He says that half of the real legacy is in the hands of the US Government thanks to Snake, and that he was working for the CIA.

This is where the 1st insatlment now comes into play and gives you the up to date story about Solid Snake and his twin Brother Liquid Snake.

Metal Gear Solid's story centers on Solid Snake, a retired soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons disposal facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from FOXHOUND, a renegade special forces unit that he and his commander Col. Roy Campbell were once apart of.Solid Snake is also a legendary infiltrator and saboteur according to the game and his CODEC conversations. This story also takes place in 2005 even though it was released in 98'. FOXHOUND and the genetically-enhanced Next-Generation Special Forces unit lead an armed uprising at Shadow Moses, a remote isle located in Alaska's Fox Archipelago and the site of a nuclear weapons disposal facility. In the process, they acquire Metal Gear REX, a nuclear-capable bipedal tank, threatening the U.S. government with a nuclear reprisal if they do not receive a large cash ransom and the remains of the legendary mercenary Big Boss.(Snake and Liquids father). Solid Snake, in retirement at Alaska's Twin Lakes,[22] is forcibly dispatched at the request of Colonel Roy Campbell to penetrate the terrorist defenses and neutralize the threat. The opening video shows snake swimming into the starting point of the game and first objective is to reach the elevator in the back, eliminating any threat he may have to encounter.

Snake Must than Battle his way to the 2nd floor of the Tank Hanger to rescue the D.A.R.P.A Cheif Donald Anderson. After Snake finds him, he informs Snake of Metal Gear REX's deactivation procedure, than without warning he mysteriously dies of what appears to be a heart attack.(Don't want to spiol too much but it was a result of FoxDie). Following a brief encounter with Meryl Silverburgh(The mysterious lady in the 2nd holding cell), she aids their escape from the base prison, Snake continues on to find the other hostage, ArmsTech president Kenneth Baker. He is used as bait by Revolver Ocelot, and Snake is challenged to a gunfight, interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious cyborg ninja who severs Ocelot's arm before escaping. Snake is again briefed on the Metal Gear project by Baker and just like the DARPA Chief, he dies of a sudden heart attack just before revealing key information. Snake is than furious at Campbell, thinking that he knows what is going on with the so called Heart Attacks, because just before Baker died he told snake that they were just using him for........than Baker died without finishing his last word.

Snake then contacts Meryl via Codec, and agrees to meet her in the base's warhead disposal area on the condition he contact Metal Gear's designer, Hal "Otacon" Emmerich. While searching for him, he encounters the giant Vulcan Raven in an M1 Abrams tank, which he swiftly disables, and locates Otacon in his lab. The cyborg ninja Snake previously encountered reappears, and after a hand-to-hand battle reveals himself to be Solid Snake's former ally Gray Fox, who Snake believed he had killed years earlier. Before they can settle their score, the ninja vanishes again. Otacon, while safe, is unaware that Metal Gear is to be used as a nuclear delivery system, and breaks down when Snake informs him that he is continuing his family's close involvement with the US nuclear program. He agrees to aid Snake remotely, using special camouflage to procure information and supplies while remaining unseen. Snake then meets Meryl, and they discuss their differing roles as soldiers- Meryl having joined the military to feel closer to her father, an Army officer killed in action. Ultimately he allows her to accompany him on his mission. Their reunion is brief, and after being telepathically coerced by Psycho Mantis to attack Snake, Sniper Wolf ambushes them, wounding and capturing Meryl and eventually Snake finding a sniper rifle (PSG1) to defend himself against Sniper Wolf following a sniper's duel.

After succesfully deafeating Sniper Wolf for the first time, snamke makes his way to the bottom of the communications tower where he is ambushed by Wolf and a few guards. Wolf scratches snake across the face causing him to bleed saying she has left her mark on him and she'll finish off her prey when she's ready. Next thing you know snake is attached to a torture machine and you can hear Ocelot and Liquid talking but you can't see them until Ocelot raises up the machine. While attached to the machine, Liquid confirms Snake's suspicion that they are twin brothers. He hands Snake over to Ocelot, who tortures him, by running electric charges through his body. This is where the future of the game rest's in Snake/your hands. Before Snake is totured he is given a choice, if he submits to the toture Meryl dies, but if he doesn't submit Meryl and Otacon survive the rest of the game.(I Won't tell you anymore, I don't want to ruin the game for those who haven't played it yet). Snake quickly escapes the holding cell by once again faking his death but this time with ketchup.

Snake once again goes back to the Communications Tower where he sets off the alarm and is chased and shot at by hundreds of guards. After being chased to the top of the base's Communications Tower, he encounters Liquid again, in a Hind-D attack helicopter. Despite being outgunned, Snake shoots it down with the help once again by a stinger missle launcher. Snake finally descending the tower, and is yet again ambushed by Sniper Wolf, this time successfuly killing her following a second duel. Otacon, who was madly in love with her, is overcome with grief, but continues to assist Snake through the rest of his mission.

Snake descends into the bowels of the Shadow Moses facility, first cutting through the base forge then down into the warehouses below. Here he encounters Raven again, this time face-to-face,(In one of the hardest battles in the game) and kills him. Before he dies, Raven reveals that the DARPA Chief who Snake encountered was actually FOXHOUND member Decoy Octopus in disguise. Shortly after, Master Miller calls and reveals that Dr Naomi Hunter, a support agent, had given Solid Snake the genetically engineered virus FoxDie during his mission preparations, and is sending coded messages into the facility- Campbell swiftly orders her arrest. The virus, designed to kill people with particular genetic markers via cardiac arrest,(The so called Heart Attack), but althought the virus was injected into Snake there is no specific life span for him meaning who knows when the virus will kill Snake or if it would. The FoxDie was responsible for the deaths of Octopus and the Armstech president. Naomi, struck by guilt, contacts Snake in secret and confesses that she joined the mission to sabotage it, as she is the adoptive sister of the now barely human Gray Fox(The Cyborg Ninja guy). However, upon learning of Snake's own tragic past through the current mission, she no longer has the heart to kill him directly, having reprogrammed the virus, now meaning it may not even effect snake at all or not till later in his life. Infiltrating Metal Gear's hangar and following the supposed procedure to disarm the warhead, Snake unknowingly activates Metal Gear REX using the security override code keys. Snake was actually tricked onto thinking Metal Gear REX was already activated when really it wasn't, so when he input the the keys into the computer he instead activated Metal Gear. After Snake activates it he gets a call from Master Miller who reveals himself to actually be Liquid in disguise. He informs Snake that his entire mission was manipulated by the renegades to allow the launch of the nuclear weapon. As a parting gift before Liquid boards REX, Liquid explains that they are the product of the 1972 Les Enfants Terribles project, a government sponsored effort to clone legendary mercenary Big Boss(Their father). However, part of the process requires that their genes be altered, Solid receiving all of Big Boss' dominant genes, and Liquid receiving all the recessive genes(Leftovers).

Drawn into battle with Metal Gear REX, Snake manages to disable the machine's sensors with the aid of Otacon and his trusty stinger missle launcher. After Snake destroys the sensors we once again see Gray Fox who manages to damage it further, but than is trapped by Liquid and is wounded and later crushed by Metal Gears foot after being dragged off the ledge. During the whole time Liquid is killing Grey Fox, Snake has a clear shot to kill Liquid and destroy Metal Gear REX, but every time you hit the fire button Snake says "I Cant Do It", "It's No Use", "No Good" or "GREY FOX". I still don't understand why he couldn't do it, I guess it's suppose to give the game a more dramatic side to the story, so after Grey Fox dies, Snake once again has to battle Liquid and Metal Gear this time FINALLY destroying Metal Gear REX, but the game is not finished yet. Liquid survives, challenging Snake to a final Hand to Hand Combat atop a destroyed Metal Gear, where Snake succeeds and is reunited with Meryl- possibly for the final time, depending on Snake's actions when he was being tortured(like I said earlier). Not to spoil anymore again I'll just skip to the final chase. During the Jeep chase Liquid is still once again alive and chases you through the underground maitenance tunnel. After the jeep chase with the seemingly unkillable Liquid, Snake finally escapes the facility, and his brother collapses after nearly blowing Snake to bits with a machine gun, Liquid is killed by FoxDie. Colonel Campbell who was briefly ousted from command of the mission, calls off a nuclear airstrike intended to obliterate the evidence of the day's events, and officially declares Snake killed in action to prevent the US Government returning for him in the future. The end of the game Snake and Meryl or Otacon are shown riding off into the alaskan winterland after finding a hidden snowmobile in the mountains.

Wow this story is really getting good, I do hope they make a movie of this, I'd love to see it. Now on to the next and so far final chapter of the story(That is until they realease MGS4 coming out soon).

Metal Gear Solid Sons of Liberty opens on George Washington Bridge in New York City, on August 8, 2007, more than two years after the Shadow Moses island incident (the events of the original Metal Gear Solid). Solid Snake and Otacon, now members of the NGO Philanthropy, are investigating the development of a new Metal Gear consistently described only as having been designed to wipe the floor with all the other models which have been built since Metal Gear REX's design was leaked. Shortly after Snake's arrival on the disguised oil tanker, a group of Russian terrorists under the command of Russian nationalist Sergei Gurlukovich attack the ship. After sneaking up to the bridge, Snake encounters Olga, Sergei's daughter, who refuses to leave the tanker despite being pregnant.

After he successfully tranquilizes her in combat, he sneaks his way down to the holds in order to record pictures of the new Metal Gear, RAY, an amphibious anti-Metal Gear prototype. Matters rapidly escalate as Revolver Ocelot betrays and murders Sergei Gurlukovich. It is revealed that Ocelot was the recipient of a new arm following Metal Gear Solid, that of the late Liquid Snake, which it's unknown means causes a change in Revolver Ocelot's demeanor and behavior, with Liquid somehow possessing him. Under Liquid's control he sinks the tanker, and escapes with RAY before regaining command of his body. Before the cutscene is over we see Snake struggling for his life trying to swim to the surface but before we see if Snake survives the scene is over, and in the second part of the story we find out Snake is pernounced DEAD, and Raiden is introduced into the story.

We Start off the 2nd part of the story with Raiden, supposedly operating under a reformed FOXHOUND two years after the Tanker Chapter on April 29, 2009. Initially he was referred to as Snake. His orders are to rescue hostages, including the US President, from the terrorist group Sons of Liberty, who are also threatening to destroy the Big Shell Clean-Up Facility they have siezed. Raiden infiltrates the Shell via sea while SEAL Team 10 enters by air. He joins forces up with SEAL Lt. JG Pliskin(Snake in Disguise) and bomb specialist Peter Stillman to disable explosives planted on the Shell by Stillman's former pupil, Fatman, now a member of the terrorists. While Raiden successfully eliminates Fatman, Stillman dies as a result of one of Fatman's traps.

In the aftermath of the battle with the assistance of a mysterious cyborg ninja(supposibly Grey Fox) calling itself Mr. X, Raiden locates the President, and discovers that the Big Shell is the development facility for a new Metal Gear. Known as Arsenal Gear, it houses a powerful AI supercomputer, capable of controlling information transmitted over the Internet. The President also claims the democratic process is a sham, and the true rulers of the United States are an organisation known as the Patriots. Revolver Ocelot kills him soon after, and Raiden proceeds to his final objective disabling Arsenal Gear and thus halt the nuclear strike. Raiden meets up again with Plisken, having revealed himself as the true Solid Snake,during a fight with Solidius Snake(the 3rd Snake Brother). Emma Emmerich, an Arsenal Gear engineer, assist him in attempting to destroy the computer using a virus, but failed. Emma dying in the attempt after being stabbed by an un-killable terrorist named Vamp. Snake and Raiden are left with no choice but to disable Arsenal physically. As Snake's partner Otacon escapes with the surviving hostages by helicopter. Mr. X returns, revealing itself to be Olga Gurlukovich, and knocks Raiden unconscious with an electric blast, and Snake telling him thanks for the help, leading Raiden to think Snake was originally one of the terrorists.

Awakening in an Arsenal torture chamber, Raiden is probed by Solidus Snake, the true terrorist leader, who reveals that he is a Patriot agent, and his(Raiden's) adoptive son. Olga, working as a Patriot double-agent within the Sons Of Liberty, helps Raiden escape,Raiden than has to fight his way(Naked) to the colon of Arsenal Gear where his only cover is a cardboard box and his bare hands. He locates Snake within the colon of Arsenal Gear where we see Snake once again dressed in his famous FOXHOUND sneaking suit. A quick funny note, at the beginning of the second part of the story where you run into Pliskin(Who is really Snake) and give him the razor blade you found before you meet him, he will be clean shaven instead of having the out of place looking beard and mustach when you meet him in the colon where he gives you your equiptment back. Raiden and Snake both then fight their way to the final showdown between Solidius Snake and the Metal Gear RAY's. During the fight and before you meet snake again Raiden's commanding officer(A fake Col. Campbell) begins to act extremely erratically and strange as the virus in the supercomputer begins to take effect, revealing him to be a creation of the supercomputer, remotely manipulating Raiden's mind thinking he was actually talking to THE Col. Campbell.

After Snake and Raiden defeat the guards after a 10min battle they run into the remaining terrorist Fortune. With Snake holding off a vengeful Fortune, Raiden is forced into battle with dozens of Metal Gear RAY units. Olga intervenes to protect him, but is killed. The RAY units begin to malfunction, attacking each other and Solidus as the virus tears through the GW AI's program. Arsenal begins an emergency ascent, and Snake now restrained by Fortune, Solidus, and Raiden are carried to the roof of the fortress as it surfaces. To Solidus' increasing rage, Ocelot reveals that he too is a Patriot agent, the entire episode of the day was a carefully co-ordinated attempt to reenact the events of the Shadow Moses Incident what Ocelot describes as the S3 Plan, or Solid Snake Simulation, designed to turn Raiden into the perfect soldier and killing machine just like Snake and his brothers. Ocelot than kills Fortune and boards the prototype Metal Gear RAY stolen from the Tanker two year previous,(the first part of the story) and attempts to finish off the survivors of the exercise. However Liquid possesses Ocelot's arm once again, and announces his plan to hunt down the Patriots based on his host's knowledge. Setting Arsenal on a collision-course with New York, Liquid-Ocelot launches RAY into the ocean, followed by Snake.

Arsenal Gear comes to a halt in downtown New York, launching Raiden and Solidus onto the roof of Federal Hall. Solidus reveals to Raiden his reasons for trying to steal Arsenal Gear, because a nuclear electro-magnetic pulse would take down Manhattan's digital infrastructure and allow Solidus to lead it as a republic against the Patriots, a nation of Sons of Liberty. Likewise the Patriots, via another AI in another Arsenal Gear, contact Raiden to reveal the truth of their actions, the AIs being programmed to becoming digital censors, removing trite and needless information from the electronic world in what they call Selection for Societal Sanity or S3 Pla'. However, they could as easily be manipulating perceived history for the Patriot's needs. Believing the only option available is to track down the Patriots using the information in Raiden's neural implants, he offers his son one final duel.

Raiden defeats Solidus, and as crowds descend upon the wreckage of Arsenal Gear, Snake and Raiden meet one last time, where his mentor informs him that only he can choose what to believe in, and that he must pass on what he believes to be true. Having planted a tracking device on Liquid-Ocelot's Metal Gear, he and Otacon plan to follow him, and to hunt down the Patriots, whose details were hidden in the GW computer virus disc. Raiden demands Snake take him with them, but Snake replies by saying "no not yet, not until you do something you've been wanting to do all day" As Snake disappears into the crowd, Raiden is finally reunited with Rose, on April 30, 2009 the 220th anniversary of George Washington's inauguration as President of the United States, and the anniversary of Rose and Raiden's first meeting. She says to Raiden she has something to ask/tell him, but it is for their ears only, than they both switch on their CODEC and the game ends in silence. My guess is she proposed to him, because she has been hinting it all through the game but Raiden was to stupid to realize it at the time but that is just me, for all we know it could have been anything.

In a brief epilogue at the end of the game, Otacon and Snake discuss the decoding of the virus disc, which reveals that all 12 members of the Patriots have been dead for approximately 100 years, and that one of them is a major sponsor of Philanthropy.

That is where the game/story leaves us, and according to reports and reviews Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is suppsoe to be the game that finishes the whole story and where it all comes togather. Also a quick note before I wrap this up, they say their is people from the previous games returning for the 4th game, and aome of the main characters also die(Presumably Snake) because he is alot older due to the mutation of the FOXDIE.

I can't wait until MGS4 is realeased, I want to be the first one to get it and see the ending of the MGS series. It is well worth the wait.

Set six years after the Manhattan Incident (the events of Metal Gear Solid 2), Metal Gear Solid 4 portrays a world where the restriction of military intervention on foreign soil has eased, leading to demands on mercenaries to fight proxy battles for business purposes, fueling the need for private military contractors (PMCs) and automated weapons.

However, the five largest PMCs are revealed to be owned by a single mother company, Outer Heaven (the name of Big Boss's mercenary company and fortified nation in the original Metal Gear), operated by Liquid Ocelot.
