Hello my name is Retro Dave

Any comments you have will be helpful since this is my first article.

Looney Tunes/ Merry Melodies takes me back. I watched these cartoons as part of The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show on Saturday mornings.

They were great wonderful theatrical shorts. Many people of many generations have enjoyed the shorts on tv or when they premiered in movie cinemas. They are timeless classics, and my favorite Looney Tune Character is Bugs Bunny. And My favorite director for the Looney Tunes/ Merry Melodies is Chuck Jones.

And who doesn't like Bugs. All my favorite Bugs Bunny Cartoons were directed by Chuck Jones. Even though Chuck did not create Bugs he did make Bugs into the character he is today.

Jones' Bugs Bunny is modeled after old time comedian/ actor Groucho Marx. Watch some Marx brothers movies and then some Chuck Jones Bugs Bunny Cartoons and you should notice some similarities. Now then here is some of my favorite Bugs Bunny Chuck Jones Shorts in no particular order. Since I'm a nice guy I will even tell you what DVD collection their on.

Baby Buggy Bunny (1954) Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 2

I love this cartoon. It's about a midget or dwarf or whatever they prefer to be called who is a bank robber. The bank robber Finster disguises himself as a tall man in a overcoat on stilts. After leaving the bank he quickly changes and disguise himself as a baby. Everything goes smooth until money falls into the possession of Bugs Bunny. So Finster has to continue to act as a baby to get the money back from Bugs. This is a funny cartoon that's just it its a cartoon and the Waylon brothers should have never made it into the abomination know as the movie "Little Man."

Anyway back to the cartoon Bugs finds out the baby Finster is actually a crook and thats when the real fun begins when he decides to punish Finster.

Bully for Bugs (1953) Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 1

Bugs misses that left turn at Albuquerque and then ends up at a bull fighting competion. There he take on the Bull. I just love the "slapping hat dance" he does.

Transylvania 6-5000 (1963) (co-directed by Maurice Noble) Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 5

Magic words "Hocus Pokus" and "Abacadabra" prove to be very useful in escaping Count Bloodcount. That is all there is to say about that cartoon.
What's Opera Doc? (1957) Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 2

Three words "Kill the wabbit!"
A brilliant masterpiece even though it has a sad ending, but what did you expect in an opera a happy ending?

The Rabbit of Seville (1950) Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 1

Similar to Whats Opera Doc? but I prefer this one better.
I guess because this one makes me laugh more; particularly the bit where Bugs is making a salad on Elmer's head.

Long-Haired Hare (1949) Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 1

Bugs interrupts the opera singer Giavani Jones' rehearsal by playing loud folk music. The enraged opera singer smashes Bugs' instruments over Bugs head and Bugs plans to get even. My favorite part of the cartoon is when Bugs dresses up as conductor Leopold Stokowski and conducts the Giavani into singing a never ending note the literally bring down the concert hall.

The last three from my selection are known as the "hunting trilogy" these are the cartoons in which Daffy tries to convince Elmer it's really Rabbit season when in actuality its Duck Season.

Rabbit Fire (1951) Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 1

This short was the first time Bugs, Daffy, and Elmer Fudd were ever paired together. I believe this short has the most recognizable Bugs Bunny joke ever. That is the "Rabbit Season Duck Season" bit. And of course at the end of the cartoon its Elmer Season.

Rabbit Seasoning (1952) Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 1

Basically this cartoon is about "Pronoun Trouble", and how the wrong pronoun used in a sentence can get Daffy shot.

Duck Rabbit Duck (1953) Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 3

I like this one because this takes place in winter and I think its nice to get a different landscape now and then. Here is how this short goes. Forget the Rabbit Season Duck Season joke. No pronoun trouble. Daffy says he's a goat. Bugs has a "Goat Season" sign. Daffy says he's a dirty skunk. Bugs has a "Dirty Skunk Season" sign. And so on and so forth. Of course there is that great ending. Bugs dressed as game warden tells a crazed Elmer that it's really baseball season. Elmer reluctantly shoots at the baseball. Then Bugs tricks Daffy into saying its really duck season which prompts a pack of hunters to shoot at Daffy.

Well that's all I have. As Porky Pig would say "That's all folks!"
