After 1991, at least in the United States and the once-Soviet Union, a new era of peace had begun. The Cold War ended, and the 1990s became a very laid-back decade.

Politics in 1992

Many soviet states become independent countries in this year, and 1992 is the final year of George Bush Sr.'s presidency. The Church of England allows women to become preists. The 27th Amendment to the United States Constitution is passed.

Music in 1992

In 1992, the conversion process was going at full-speed. Glam Metal was now "un-cool", and those who were still fans of the genre would get made fun of at school. Now, it was all about Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and other grunge bands. Alice in Chains releases "Dirt", and the Beastie Boys release "Check Your Head". The terrible country singer, Billy Ray Cyrus, also acheives fame with his song, "Achy Brakey Heart". Rage Against the Machine, a rap-metal band, becomes popular, and they are famous for their socialist anti-big-government message. In this year, Kurt Cobain (lead singer of Nirvana) marries the controversial Courtney Love.

Metallica
Michael Jackson
New Kids on the Block

As you can see, some pop music was still cool, but grunge would completely take over in the next year or two.
