In 1988 I was 6 years old. I spent alot of time watching TV shows like Maters of the Universe and Transformers. I loved TV and action adventure movies. I had spent the night with a friend of mine named Jason and his mom said we were going to the movies. I asked her, "to see what?" When she told me Willow I freaked out. I had seen the previews and knew it was going to be awesome.

The movie is written by George Lucas. You may remember him from movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Howard the Duck. It was directed by Ron Howard who is famous from such films as Cinderella Man, The Da Vinci Code, and A Beautiful Mind.

The basic plot of the movie is a child will be born that will end the rule of evil Queen Bavmorda, (Jean Marsh).

She sends out a decree that all children will be checked for a birth mark which will indicate the child in the prophesy. Willow Ufgood, (Warwick Davis) is a normal dwarf living a mellow poor life who dreams of being a great sorcerer and longs for adventure stumbles upon a baby by the river who had been abandoned by its mother in the opening credits of the film.

The child is voted on by the council and it is decided that Willow will take the child to the Crossroads where it can be given to a man because it is a man child.

Willow is given a few tips from the local sorcerer, High Aldwin who is played by Billy Barty, Who you may remember as Gwildor from the Masters of the Universe, (1987) Another one of my favorite films of the era.

Upon reaching the crosroads, Willow meets Madmartigan,(Val Kilmer).

The group who was with Willow all leaves and Willow is forced to give the baby to Madmartigan even though he does not want to. They separate later to be reunited in a great adventure. A farie tells the trio to look for a sorcerer named Fin Raziel, (Patricia Hayes).

The pair meets up with the army looking for the child who is led by Sorsha (Joanne Whalley). She is Bavmorta's daughter.

Willow, Madmartigan, and Elora Danan (the chosen child) are all captured and are to be taken to Bavmorta where the child will be destroyed. They escape and kidnapp Sorsha and the climax begins.

Along the Way they meet many unforgetable characters like the Brownies, trolls, and even a dragon type creature.

The movie has magic, swordfighting, humor, and it is all topped off with a cast of unforgetable characters.

It even spawned a line of toys.

This movie was a huge deal to me as a kid and should rank high on everybodies list of great movies of the 80s.
