FIRST AND FOREMOST I HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS IS MY FIRST ARTICLE. SECONDLY, I HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS IS MY OPINION ON MUSIC.
In 1997, I had a musical awakening. I was 9 years old, and I started listening to many different kinds of music thanks to my friends. Here's a year by year example of stuff I listened to from 1997 to 2001
1997 saw me in 4th grade. Boy bands were all the rage. And I guess I was one of the only boys who liked their music. Hanson had it best with MMMbop. A catchy tune with a great chorus made this one a favorite of mine. Titanic was the movie to watch, and Celine Dion's song "My Heart Will Go On" was the song to listen to. Chumbawumba and Aqua were 2 great 1 hit wonders with good songs. "I Get Knocked Down" is a great one to watch drunks attempt to sing (Long story from a Halloween party I attended a few years back.) and Barbie Girl is a great one to sing along to when you're alone in the car and it comes on. Deana Carter also had a big hit with her debut single "Srawberry Wine." A song I really loved until I found out what the lyrics meant.
1998, I was in 5th grade, and I mostly listened to country music. I loved listening to Shania Twain and Lonestar. They both had great albums. This was also the year I discovered the comedy of Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall. They wouldn't become more popular for a few years when the Blue Collar Comedy Tour movies hit it big on Comedy Central. This is the time I had seen the Spice Girls' movie, and bought both of their big albums. For a while I listened to them and Britney Spears (Before she became a one note TMZ joke).
1999. The end of the millenium. This was a huge year for my music tastes. I met many new friends thanks to a move into middle school, and they introduced me to a genre that I hadn't been into before. Rap. I really liked the music of Eminem. Of course, I was listening to censored versions of the songs.
2000 was a better year. In that I mean The Backstreet Boys came out with their anticipated second album. Every song was excellent. I was listening to more Country as I discovered the Dixie Chicks. I really loved their song "Wide Open Spaces." It was a really nice, sweet song about a parent/child relationship.
2001: This is when my Country music love came into full force. Also when my love of pop and rock came into light when I went to Myrtle Beach with all my friends. I really loved Nelly Furtado's stuff "I'm Like A Bird" was a really uplifting song. Also, I heard the song "Lady Marmalade" by Pink, Christina Agulara, Eve, Lil' Kim and Missy Elliot for the first time. I think it was when the movie Mulin Rouge came out.
2002: Nickelback! I love this band. Ever since I've heard their first big song "How You Remind Me." Their album "Silver Side Up" was the only album I listened to in this year. I also loved the songs "She (Fucking) Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd, and "Bodies" by Drowning Pool. I was really into hard rock at this time.
In part 2, I'll be remembering stuff from 2003 all the way to today! Including but not limited to: Rock, Country, Pop, and Classic Rock. Hope you guys enjoyed it.
