Fawlty Towers Season 2 Episode 2
Episode Title: The Psychiatrist
Episode Plot Basil is busy trying to run the hotel, while Sybil flirts with one of the guests, Mr. Johnson. Basil mocks him, making him look like an ape (which lands Basil in bother when guests arrive during his impression of Johnson). The new guests are Dr. Abbot and Mrs. Abbot who, much to the surprise of Basil, is also a doctor. Being of a higher class, Basil escorts the Abbots to their room. Meanwhile, Mr. Johnson asks Sybil if he can let his mother stay in his room when she arrives, seeing as the hotel is full. A young, attractive Australian girl named Raelene checks in and Basil tries to resist her charms. Basil gets into trouble with Sybil, when an incident involving Raelene and a light switch goes horribly wrong. The following morning, Basil learns that Dr. Abbot (the husband) is a psychiatrist and becomes unnerved at the fact he might be being watched. Upstairs, he catches a glimpse of Mr. Johnsonâs guest and tries to eavesdrop in on their conversation through the Abbotâs wall and then through Raeleneâs wall, which wakes her up and, unfortunately, Sybil too. Basil enlists the help of Manuel and a ladder to catch Johnsonâs extra guest. Sadly, the ladder leads to the Abbotâs room, which causes Basil to tumble off the ladder. Manuel fetches Sybil, explaining that âthe girlâ is making Basil âgo crazyâ. Sybil misunderstands and slaps Basil, evicting him from their room. He goes to Raelene to apologise but he hides in the wardrobe when Sybil appears. Outside, Basil, in a rare glimmer of manhood, shouts at Sybil and forces Mr. Johnson to show âMrs. Johnsonâ, who turns out to be his mother. All by himself, Basil puts his head in his hands and hops about like a frog.
