Captain Planet and the Planeteers Season 3 Episode 10
Episode Title: Hog Tide
Episode Plot As a violent hurricane rages around Hope Island, Gaia tells the Planeteers a story about how Dr, Blight, Rigger and Greedlys ancestors conspired to build expensive hotels and poorly designed houses on beach front property despite the environmental repercussions.
Not only do the eco-villains have predecessors that worked to exploit the planet, the Planeteers had 1940s counterparts who fight on the side of the planet itself. Wheelers counterpart is a teenage waiter named Nicho; Linkas equivalent is a southern belle named Lydia; Kwames counterpart is a Jamaican dishwasher/piano player/waiter named Wally; Gis earlier version is an Asian artist named Li; and Ma-tis 1940s version is a Seminole Indian named Asi.
Greedlys grandfather, Don Porkaloin, coerces Lydias father, the zoning commissioner, into giving him a permit to build on protected land. Then he enlists Blights grandmother in deliberately bringing a hurricane to the Florida coastline, making inland property into prime beachfront property. When the hurricane blows through, Porkaloin locks the old-time Planeteers in the hotel when they protest his irresponsible land development.
The five teens combine their efforts in order to escape from their prison, and they soon discover Planeteer rings on their fingers. After accidentally activating their powers, they realize they only have a short time to master the rings. As Nicho, Wally, and Li gather voter signatures for their petitions, Lydia and Asi research laws and loopholes that would put a permanent end to Porkaloins development.
Porkaloin captures Nicho, Wally, and Li, leaving them tied up and standing in fast drying concrete at the low tide line. When Lydia uses her wind power to bully Porkaloin into telling her where the others are, he confesses, and she and Asi set out to free them. However, Blights ancestor conjures up a hurricane before the concrete could be shattered. The five then try to combine their powers and call Captain Planet. The hero then emerges, rescues Nicho, Li, and Wally; he then trashes Blights hurricane machine; and for his final act, he has Porkaloin arrested for his illegal development.
Gaia then tells how the early Planeteers created bright and ecologically sound futures for themselves. Wally becomes an architect who designed buildings that work in harmony with the environment; Li makes paintings that move people to work toward saving the sea coast; Asi becomes a lawyer who wins his tribe a large settlement from the government in order to compensate for taking Seminole land; Nicho creates environmentally conscious cartoons that warn people of the global repercussions of pollution; and Lydia becomes a politician who fights to preserve coastal wetlands and eventually marries. Is her husband Nicho?
