with all the talk of AIT (Agency for Instructional Television), I can't help but wonder if there are any Canadians who remember the old kiddy shows of the 70's and 80's from TVO.

the ones that stuck with me are:

Write On, Readalong, Read All About It! and of course, Today's Special.

anyone else remember? they had them on in the afternoons until 7 on this old channel that aired for about 6 hours a day called Galaxy with a bunch old cartoons.

I remember Today's Special. I think it was on Nick as well. I can't remember if I watched it on Nick or on Canadian TV (we get a few of the stations here in Michigan).

Not knocking your taste or anything, but that show freaked me out a little bit. I remember some weirdness to it for some reason.

no offense taken. but why does it weird you out? could it be the mannequin, the mouse, or the talking computer?

Was Galaxy a separate channel, or just a TVO programming block? I definitely remember Today's Special and Read All About It!, but I don't remember Galaxy.

I honestly don't remember what it was about the show. It just left a bad taste in my mouth for some reason. But then again so did the show MASH and I love that show now.

I used to watch TVO all the time but not as much as YTV =) The title 'Write On' sounds familiar...

I think it just a TV channel that had old cartoons on and Today's Special was the last show on before they signed off at 7 p.m. I remember it was right around the same time pay TV went into effect.

Oh yes!

I loved: Today's Special
Read All About It! (The music intro was creepy)
Readalong
Fables Of The Green Forest
The Edison Twins
The Elephant Show

I could go on and on, Wikipedia has a good long list.

Shame I never saw the channel as a tyke, despite living very close to the Canadian border, but some of their stuff also got aired on US channels like PBS or Today's Special on Nickelodeon.

I enjoyed Today's Special a lot, and wished I had a department store like that to go to.

Interesting noticing that TVO also had cartoons as well, something PBS didn't try to bother much with outside animated sequences in shows like Sesame Street for that time, but I get the impression much of TVO's output was nearly the same as I had seen on cable TV down here.
