why cant they? I always thought they could...i though it was just that pan was a weakling...
The show creators said it was always that way (from the moment they thought up the idea of a super saijin). The females could become as powerful as a super saijin, but they could not actually transform, just like they can't grow beards.

Horribly sexist, and I think Pan would look great as a SSJ.
Although, just my opinion, I find it odd since the original inspiration for the SSJ (again, this is IMO) was Launch. The nice black haired assistant to Master Roshi that, when she sneazed, transformed into a gun toating maniac with... you got it, green eyes and yellow hair.

If that isn't the origins of the Super Saijin, I don't know what is.

I like Launch, especially because her two personalities are completely the opposites. I wonder where she went in Dragonball Z,I read it somewhere though, but I forgot

Actually, no. Dragonball first aired in Japan in 1986.
Super Sonic first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which was released in 1992.
The episode that had Goku going Super Saijin came out in japan in late 1999.

    Super-Sonic predates Super-Saijins by 7 years.
