I need an example of such a thing being viewed that way, I have never heard of it. If reading the argument maybe I can understand. I think this is probably an Australian thing (am I correct to remember that is where you are?)
My initial guess would be, it is about freedom of speech. It is not PC to inhibit someone else's expression (or others' enjoyment of said expression) because you don't like it.
Looking at it that way, one example I can think of, is the JC Penney thing that happened last spring. JCP had Ellen Degeneres in their commercials. Some people didn't like that and tried to push a boycott--because they don't like that Degeneres is a lesbian. Sexual orientation was not even a topic of the commercials. Simply a background fact that these people chose to get nasty about.
As to Married with Children, I'm not aware of which particular case you mention. But it portrayed blue collar family and lifestyle at a time when that was not common. In that way, protesting it can be viewed as un-PC, even though the show itself was rather crass.
