Do you have a car alarm?

    		 My fist car (a truck) had one of the old fashion ones you had to arm and disarm with a key. I didn't get one for my next car until it got broken into and I had all of my stereo equipment stolen. This one had remote start and a pager. Unfortunately I bought a off brand and when the remote broke I couldn't find a replacement (the company went out of business).

    I have a Viper 5704 now which is about the best you can get. It has remote start, shock sensor, glass break sensor, battery back up, window roll-up/roll-down module and just about every other feature you can think of. I have the horn and a siren connected to it.

    Some say alarms are a waste of money, but I see them as a necessity especially if you live in the city. I love the remote start more than anything.

    But if I own a car now, you betcha I'd have one installed. There's way too much car sharing going on around here today, lol.

    LOL Yea they get broken into all the time around here especially in apartment complexes and parking lots. Virtually all cars made after the mid 90s have a chip in the key that have to be programmed for the vehicle. This means you can't just go to walmart and get a key made. Without the right key the fuel pump and starter are disabled so cars can't really be hot wired anymore. Most are either towed or stolen because the key was left inside. I had to get a bypass module for the remote start to work. I still have the protection, but the bypass module kicks in when I engage the remote start. I also have a starter kill relay on the alarm itself. Even if they have the key and the alarm is engaged they can't start it. I really have the alarm to protect the contents inside such as my gun and radar detector. I don't have a after market stereo system, but I might get one in the future.

    		 And that would explain the random car trashing that happens in the neighborhoods around Seattle. Everything happens right out in the open, no one even tries to hide what they're doing anymore.

    		 My car has one, it's pathetic though. It sounds like a clown horn and it is not loud at all so it's more comical than anything. For some reason it goes off if I open the door from the outside without a key.

    Not from the factory. It was an extra charge on mine and I would much rather have an after market which has more features.

    I thought about getting LoJack in case I get car jacked so the police can track it. The Houston police traced a car to a chop shop last year. Sadly the car was already "chopped" when they got there.
