NIF misses its deadline.

NIF is a $5 billion super-laser powered nuclear fusion project that missed its October 1st deadline to ignite a fusion reaction. The process behind NIF is to aim some of the worlds most powerful lasers at a teaspoon-sized ball of hydrogen and ignite a sustained fusion reaction, but so far the results have been failure and the U.S. Congress is looking for dollars to save before January 1, 2013.
