Motor Trend has named the Tesla Model S as its 2012 Car of the Year.

The Tesla is so unusual that I want to post this on Chit Chat with a link to the best Car and Driver video review I've ever seen on the Model S. The video is comprehensive and the demo of the computer control center is a real eye-opener.

Wow, I thought Car and Driver would usually picked something more...bourgeois. I really think Kia has come a long ways, the new Forte looks tons better than anything else they ever produced.

I never expected a full electric car to get a unanimous nomination from the Motor Trend staff. The Model S has a "one speed transmission", lol, since full electric cars don't need a tranny. Electric motors deliver 100% torque at 0 rpm - no tranny necessary.

It definitely seems Aston Martin inspired.

That's what I thought, it looks like an Aston Martin sedan. And it has a price tag to match too. Nothing comes cheap but a fully equipped version of this car seems waay overpriced, imho.

Since everything in this car is computer controlled, future upgrades will be just a download away. Given the technology involved some manufacturers make their electric vehicles "lease only", the corporation maintains ownership for the life of the vehicle.
