Are trains christmas(y)?

keerjeerclacko 6 months 17 days ago Posts: 673	Some people may think this doesn't belong here but when I think of christmas it gives me a big nostalgic feel and brings back alot of memories. My question however is are trains a part of christmas? Are they christmas themed? i always rememeber seeing them through out christmas growing up in stores and going round n round under the tree's and on different christmas decorations. Do you consider them like candy, candy canes, snow, ribbons, teddy bears and everything else that reminds people of christmas or do they feel out of place to you? I'm just asking because I have 3 different train decorations for xmas, one that is electric and goes under and around my tree, another that is a mini that is part of a different mountain full of snow decoration and another of foam with fake snow on it. I want to know if it is too much and instead of looking like christmas it looks like a train themed house lol thanks. As a bonus question, name 1 other thing that reminds people of christmas? EXAMPLE: Candy Cane, Teddy bear, Ribbon, Mistle Toe, doves ect.

We had a sheet of plywood painted green, with a painted river and some other features. He would put it on the pool table and we would lay out the tracks, houses, matchbox cars, animals and people, fences, barn, and a mountain with a cave tunnel. Yeah, trains are hella Christmas.

Hordak Alpha 6 months 17 days ago Posts: 1588	I can remember as a young child asking the mall Santa for a train set. When I got one for Christmas that year I was excited. It was a nice little battery operated train with all of the cars and a track that could run in a circle. Eventually, as every nice childhood toy does, the train got busted so it couldn't run around anymore. I still have it and know where it is, but it is sad it cannot run anymore. If only we all could be born with the ability to take care of our toys while still children instead of obtaining the appreciation for such things when we're all grown up.

I find great comfort in the nostalgia of Christmas and all it's trappings: Decorations, music, movies, food, weather, and yes...Trains! I can remember receiving a train track and train as a very young kid. Trains are very nostalgic, if for no other reason than they are slowly becoming outdated. It's unfortunate, but true. I make a point of watching Murder On The Orient Express just to get my train fix sometimes.

pikachulover 6 months 16 days ago Posts: 6110	My grandma use to I'm not sure if she still does have a train circling around the bottom of her tree. The funniest thing about it was that it was broken. She would get mad at me when I was a kid and wanted to play with it. I secretly made fun of it and that it didn't work.

I think toy trains used to be one of the most popular toys. Now, of course, people associate them with travel and delivery of goods for the holidays, as in the awesome Coca-Cola train commercial from the 90s. Here is a great article on toy trains. And another one. My Dad has a great electric train set from the 50s that I look forward to inheriting. They haven't used it in years because they now have 3 cats that practically live under the tree every year, but it worked great last time we set it up. He even has the original boxes.

bassman21 6 months 16 days ago Posts: 12790	I think they do. I had two train sets as a kid. Both were Santa Fe ones from Tyco. Unfortunately our house was really small and we had carpet in every room which would get over the tracks. We were going to get a large board so it could lay flat, but never did. The tracks eventually got damaged and misplaced. I had the parts till my parents sold their house in the early 2000s and told got rid of my stuff without asking.

Drahken 6 months 15 days ago Posts: 2141	Personally, trains always seemed a little odd as xmas items. However, model trains actually originated as holiday decor. Lionel made a little train car that went around a track for a window display at a store. The focus was supposed to be on the item the train was carrying, but everyone fell in love with the train itself. The rest is history.

I went to it till my grandfather moved away and had no way of getting there. As if they are Christmas(y) enough? Yes they are. It usually is how the train is presented and what the train looks like too. But it mostly is how it is displayed.
	Thats right I ran over the Taco Bell dog...... I got banned from Taco Bell for life.

DirtyD1979 5 months 23 days ago Posts: 1476	Of course they are. I still remember going to my grandparents' house on Christmas and seeing the trainset they had goin' around the tree. Building model trains is also a great year `round hobby as well. It gives you something to do when there isn't crap on TV and you don't really feel like going out.
