As a kid did you take an interest in sports?

Now that I'm all grown up (23) I regret not taking an interest in sports back in the 90's. I look at sports today, well really just basketball and boxing and I'm all "Wth is this crap". I've taken a real interest in basketball, something which I haven't had in my childhood. I mean, back then I watched cartoons 24/7 and I knew who all the basketball players were. I knew who Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Shaquille O'Neal, Muggsy Bogues, Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, and Scottie Pippen were.

I'd just like anyone who has had fond memories of sports, especially basketball that they'd like to share.

When I was a freshman in high school, that was about the time I really gained an interest in watching sports on television.

Eh, I developed my interest in sports earlier than that, about 10-11 years old.

Although, before I became a teen, I remember playing baseball and football games on old-school game consoles.

I didn't care for them at all when I was younger, now I'm into Major League Baseball.

I think it's laughable how over analyzed sports can be. I never had any real interest in sports except for the 2002 MLB season. I do feel a bit out of place though at the gym because sports is pretty much all anyone ever talks about. I do wish I played sports back in high school though. However I was more of the go home and play video games type.

Same here, although I played soccer and baseball in my elementary years and gradually got worse and worse at them until I just quit. I think it was mostly because I would never practice outside of our sessions and always played video games instead.

I was big into soccer as a kid. I knew the names of the most famous players, teams and tournaments. I also played it myself quite a bit.

Nowadays, I don't really care about sports anymore. I like watching gymnastics and the 100-200 meter races at the Olympics a bit though.

No way in hell did I take an interest in sports as a kid, nor do I have the vaguest interest in sports now, nor any regrets about not taking an interest as a kid.
If you like sports, that's fine. Personally though, I find them to be completely mindless & mindnumbing. *shrug* To each their own.

This is one regret I have too. I have never really been a sports fan, but still wished I would have gotten into some sports as a kid. One reason I never did was because my mom never learned to drive and my dad worked nights; so transportation was always an issue. I did martial arts for 3 years from the age of 15, but that was it. It became very embarrassing in PE come middle school not knowing how to play any of the sports that we played. I was always the last one to be picked and if it was an odd number I would have to sit out. In 8th grade I did have a moment though. We were playing a game of basketball and for some odd reason a kid past me the ball. I ended up making the winning shot just before it was time for class to end. :D

To this day I still can't throw a football worth a damn. Just a few months back one of my supervisors at work asked me to throw the football around with him at a craw fish cookout we had. Needless to say I made a fool out of myself. :-O

Several studies have been done and shown that people who play sports as kids have more friends and are more likely to get into positions of authority (management) in adulthood. I have found this to be the case as almost every manager at my job played sports in high school and college.

Not really. With my dad around. He's a real sports nut. He follows football, basketball, baseball, hockey (not until the early to mid 90s), and track and field.

I just sort of pick up things here and there from him and reading the internet. The only sport I really like and follow is women's gymnastics. Since he doesn't follow that I can be the analyst for that sport.

But just because I had an interest in sports in high school, that didn't make me wanna try out for the team.
