To celebrate her 18th birthday Gaby Scanlon drank a liquid nitrogen cocktail.

    Here's what happened next...

That would be so cool if the FDA actually did its fucking job.

Aren't liquid nitrogen cocktails served after the nitrogen burns off completely? Otherwise it's like drinking battery acid.

Whatever the case, I'm sure super conservative cretins all over the internet are blaming her for drinking it right now.

I rarely feel sorry for people who have bad consequences from drinking. I don't see why the FDA isn't doing it's job here...should it even have to enforce people from drinking nitrogen? Seems kind of obvious.

Oh yeah, but Gaby and her family are gonna take at least one cocktail lounge to the cleaners when she's released from the hospital.

Yes. This kind of stuff shouldn't be allowed to be sold, obvious or otherwise.

Well this happened in the UK, so I'm afraid the FDA is quite powerless.

Oops. I apologize for my ignorance, I didn't actually watch the video.

But I stand by my point with whatever the UK equivalent of the FDA is. In fact, it's even worse because they should be able to better maintain that tiny amount of land.

This should be in one of Ripley's Believe It Or Not books!

Our very own Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken an interest in this UK story. The British have the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which has issued a public warning. There should be no liquid nitrogen in a drink. Bartenders are supposed to swirl it around in a glass until it vaporizes completely, and then pour in the rest of the drink. That gives a nice effect without danger.

But people are getting sloppy at cocktail lounges with inexperienced bartenders showing off for customers. If you must have a smoky drink, stick with dry ice.
