Do you know when TV shows use pre-existing songs for their theme songs?

    For example:

    Happy Days:

Speed Grapher (has a bit of suggestive content):

If so, what do you think of them, and which ones are your favourites?

The old dennis the menace show used stock music for it's theme (if you pay attention, you'll notice the same stock music in a couple road runner cartoons). Also, the CN version of knights of the zodiac used the pop song "I ran" as it's theme.

I'm not a fan of this- Why would you want to associate a song you hear on the radio with a show? The CSI shows are the worst about this.

Plus, I like original melodies and lyrics that kinda tell you what the show is about. I love playing "name that theme song" trivia games.

The Friends theme was actually written for the show. However they did use a premade song for the pilot when the planned title for the show was "Friends like us"

And Family Matters originally used this as their theme

and of course there's The Wonder Years

The UK show "sugar rush" used a blondie song as it's theme.

    You're right. From wiki

"In the late 1970s he started working for record producer and composer Mike Post. Post was hired along with Stephen Geyer to write the theme tune for a new TV series titled The Greatest American Hero, about an average high school teacher who comes into possession of a superhero outfit, and, as luck would have it, Scarbury was given the opportunity to record it.

After recording the full-length version of the song, entitled "Believe It or Not", it was edited down to a minute for broadcast as the theme song for the show. The show's success (along with its catchy theme song) prompted Elektra Records to first release it as a single, shooting up to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1981. An album by the same title was also hastily produced and it also sold well."
