There are many things to consider by both parts before pointing out. Is too ambigous.

One thing is for sure... to get ten days suspension back at my school years you have to practically implode the principal's office.

    Good point Scott.

You have to look at the teacher/student relationship. Was this teacher a teacher of the student in question? Has she hugged the student or other students before? Was she really nice normally? I agree it seems odd for a middle schooler to just go up and hug as teacher under such circumstances. It might be appropriate on her birthday or as an apology. The only time I remember hugging any teachers was on the last day of school.

There has to be more to the story, but we know how the media likes to fire everyone up.

I think something has to be psychologically wrong with a middle-schooler if they feel compelled to give a teacher a genuine, straight-up hug (or they're just extremely horny, which is a cause for alarm). Not to say it warrants a ten day suspension, but I can see how it would be taken as threatening, even if it wasn't forceful. It's certainly not appropriate behavior.

Nevertheless, I have a feeling there's more to this story than meets the eye.

There has to be more to the story. If not this teacher and school has some serious issues. Maybe he did it in a sarcastic or forceful fashion? Another story I read described the fight as horseplay and the hug as forceful. I'm curious if this student is the the class clown type and was trying to make light of the situation. If this was the case a punishment for grabbing the teacher would be appropriate, however 10 days is still excessive.

What's that teacher's problem? The boy was just showing his gratitude in his own way. The teacher should be charged for leaving that mark on the boy's arm.

WECT-TV reports that Ryan Blackmon, an eighth grade student at Bladenboro Middle School, was suspended (for 10 days) when he hugged his teacher after she broke up a potential fight between himself and another student.

Teachers are generally advised to do a one arm hug if a student hugs them, but I have never heard of students being punished for doing so.

This teacher probably had the stories of the student/teacher relationship on her mind and over reacted. Or she's a feminist bitch that just hates males. Because she made a big issue of it, the school probably felt compelled to punish the student. Even still 10 days is way too harsh. When I was in school I never saw anyone get suspended for more than 3 days. I saw some get sent to the adapted learning campus, but that was because they continued to cause trouble. Something like this would never happen.

I really feel bad for young people today.

When you add up all the crazy stories you hear from various schools around the country it makes me wonder if these kids will grow up looney tunes.

Something has gone haywire in some of these schools and all I can do is sympathize with parents as they watch the world go wacko.
