It's been so long since I played that game that I forgot that it didn't have save files...

Memory loss is most likely due to the battery in the cart dying or becoming loose. There is a way to to make the SNES able to play foreign and pirate games. You have to open it up and disable the lockout chip. Unfortunately, you need a special tool to open the SNES and I've only done it with NES so I can't really give instructions.

It wasn't really the battery. Otherwise, the entire save file collection would have shut down.
Sometimes batteries can be damaged in ways like that. I've had EarthBound and Kirby Super Star cartridges that regularly deleted the third files, but never the first two.

Maybe the contacts on your cartridge are dirty?

I've heard stories of people coming across these piracy messages on authentic copies, although it's never happened to me. But I don't think in the Donkey Kong Country games it's supposed to delete your save file, as you suggested. I'm pretty sure that when you tugged it too hard you inadvertently brought this up and at the same time lost some of your save data.

I was playing Donkey Kong Country 3 today and I upset the SNES when I accidentally tugged the controller too hard. The next time I turned it on it showed me this message.

Then my entire save file of 10 years was erased. For some reason, it spared one of them which I created just around a week ago.

    I had a genuine copy....
