About time for a new vehicle....

I bought my Ford Taurus new back in 2000 and have had it ever since. I don't do much driving and only have about 92000 miles on it. It still runs good, but its time for a change. I'm no longer working at home (my choice) so will be doing a little more driving. I have my eyes set on the 2012 Ford Escape Limited V6 front wheel drive. I want some luxury features, but want to keep it around $30,000.

The reviews look pretty good on it. The main complaints I see is it isn't as quiet inside as some other SUV's in its class. I'm going to wait a few month till I get a few $1000 saved up and will start looking. I'm also looking at the Chevy Equinox and the Toyota Rav4. I may end up going with a car who knows.

Do you guys have any advice?

That looks eerily like this one

Instead of a RAV4 I'd recommend this one, mainly because I was impressed how it handles off-road and the engine is silent even at high speeds. Personally, I prefer the TurboDiesel engine.

Small SUV? Just based on looks and your budget, I like the classic Bronco. And if I may, what made you want to not work at home anymore?

I'm a Nissan guy. Never had any problems out of them. Currently own a Nissan Quest. Traded in a 2005 Xterra for it. It was a great SUV. Plenty of power, fun to drive, but a rough ride! Stiff suspension. Previously owned an 86 Nissan 4x4. Sold it with 220k miles on it and still ran for a few more years and the kid I sold it too was rough on it. Dad had a frontier with no probs. Sister had a 240sx. We had to replace the clutch in it, but it was over 10 years old. Mom had a 1999 Pathfinder. A/C went out after 180k miles and they sold it at 210k miles. The person is still driving it to my knowledge. Very reliable vehicles. Our quest has the nicest interior of any minivan out there for the price! I don't know what the interior looks like on their SUV's now.

Bought a 2011 Kia Sorrento about six months ago new for around $21,000. Drives great, can't beat the warranty, 29 mpg highway (2012 models get 32 mpg), and they are made in the U.S. (Georgia to be exact) I'd highly recommend it.

I want to keep the payments under $500 a month. With the features I want I would end up in the mid to high 30s. Plus Ford isn't offering 0% financing right now like they are with the Escape and Fusion which would put my payments over $600 a month. The same with the Pathfinder that thabz recommended.

Naw I want a brand new vehicle with some luxury and good safety features.

As for me working at home I got sick of the stress from management. Basically if you work from home you have to exceed the company average in the metrics. They put us on shitty queues in low income areas because we are "the hammers" and can squeeze the most out of every last call, yet they will not admit they do that. I'm on the ancillary now team selling more than just Dish including internet and even alarm systems. There is no closing percentage so I can take as many calls necessary to get the job done. Even if I don't do that great they can't hold the "privilege" of working from home over my head. Plus I like having people to talk to while I work besides loser broke customers. The department is expanding so they may have a work at home option for that later on. Right now its small and most of the employees are vets like me.

I like the look of it, I'll check it out!

    Bassman,

My company manipulates queues as well on selling insurance!!! If you are one of the company suck ups, you get the better lead sources and fewer calls from bad states (yes there are states that have much worse rates and those also have a high number of people unemployed or in Kentucky's case disabled...) Like you said though they never admit it. Amazing how I will go a week with 1 or 2 calls from KY and then the rest of the month I get slammed with them... Also amazing how some agents never get bad lead sources while others get them call after call...

Nice choice bassman21. The Escape really should be selling at higher volumes but the styling may be putting off buyers. I like Fords boxier looking trucks plus Ford interiors are some of the best, imho. As time passes, post what kinda mileage your getting.

They only manufactured the 2012 Escape for a half a year to make way for the 2013 which is a complete redesign. I think many may be waiting for it. I personally don't like the new design and like the more boxy look of the 2008-20012 Escape.

I just had a Viper alarm with remote start and window rolldown/rollup modules installed. The installer said it was a nightmare because Ford changed all the wiring. I guess they wanted to use the 2012 to test some of the changes.

As for MPG I'm getting 19 in the city. I have not done much highway driving yet. I tried using E85 (ethanol) and got only 16 MPG. It isn't that much cheaper that gasoline either.

We bought our Odyssey right before a major redesign. Kind of frustrating because they don't offer any incentives to buying the current model. Although a lot of times the model right before an overhaul seems to hold resale better because of people not liking the update.
