Was there seriously no thread on here about this? For real?

Anyways, I'm just glad that the party is finally beginning to implode on itself. Took long enough.

Paul ended 3rd. People were saying that the media was lying about his numbers and he was really number one. Santorum tied with Romney, but he has no chance of winning saying stuff such as states should be able to ban contraceptives. Romney is going to win the GOP.

It really makes no difference. The party is so all over the place Obama's guaranteed another term.

Not necessarily. Romney is a good debater and I really think he could crush Obama in the debates. Romney will also do well with voters in the north east. It will be very close though.

The current trend among candidates seems to be to act as racist as possible without being blunt about it. The party is so backwards now I can't believe anyone born after the civil rights movement would not be ashamed of being part of it.

Vote for Santorum, or maybe Bachmann. They're both absolutely fucked in the head, it'd be interesting to see one of them as president

Bauchmann dropped out, not that she had a chance to begin with. Santorum isn't popular with a significant portion of the country, thank goodness. It's basically a clown competition anyway, all of the candidates are equally interested in privatizing, taxing the poor and cutting the rich's, and boning to Tea Party ideology that wants an even more extremist version of Bush.

For convenience, I decided to make this a general catch-all topic to discuss everything leading up to and including the upcoming election (for historical purposes, this thread was originally about the Iowa Republican caucus, where Romney beat Santorum by eight votes). I'll leave it stickied up until the inauguration on January 20th, 2013.

So as a lot of you know, the New Hampshire primary is today, with Mitt Romney, once again, presumably taking a huge lead amongst Republicans. Here's something funny I found regarding my state while keeping track of the updates:

"This just in from Virginia: a federal judge has ordered Virginia's electoral boards to stop preparing ballots for the 6 March Republican primary until after Friday's hearing on Rick Perry's emergency challenge to state election law.

Perry - now joined by Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Jon Huntsman – is challenging Virginia's requirement for a candidate to gather 10,000 signatures from registered voters spread throughout the state to qualify for the primary ballot.

So far only Mitt Romney and Ron Paul have qualified for the Virginia primary. Both Gingrich and Perry's campaigns failed to get enough valid signatures from local voters, while Santorum and Huntsman didn't try."

Now my question is, if you can't get 10,000 signatures from registered voters to run, how the hell do you expect to actually win? Although, I do suppose Mitt has a much better chance of beating Ron Paul if none of his fellow Tea Party sympathizers are in the race.

Check out these New Hampshire ballots. Apparently it isn't difficult to get your name on one.

Well, it looks like, as predicted, Romney's already the winner... however, even though the media seems to focus on Santorum and Huntsman as his biggest competitors (at least lately), I've been thinking long before the New Hampshire primary that his biggest competition would be Ron Paul, and both Iowa and New Hampshire put together really support that. Anyone want to give their thoughts on either candidate, or think anyone other than Romney has a chance?

Looks like Huntsman, the only sane GOP candidate, is dropping out of the race and endorsing Romney. While I don't like Romney at all, I still have to say he was the best choice as the least crazy of the crazies. Of course, Huntsman could just be trying to get his name on the ticket.

I started a thread on the 2012 race in the Real World Forum without realizing this thread existed. I'll just copy and paste what I said in my other thread here:

I have been watching most of these GOP presidential candidate debates, but I haven't thrown my support behind any particular person yet. I like a lot of the stuff Newt Gingrich has been saying in the debates, but I don't think he would stand a chance against Obama come November. He just has some bad history behind him, and many people find him to be a very unlikeable guy. Romney will most likely end up being the nominee. I don't like Romney's history of flip-flopping on issues, but he definitely has the experience to be president (and I guess it's near impossible to find a politician who doesn't flip-flop on issues anyway, sadly). As for Ron Paul and Rick Santorum...neither one has a chance at becoming the nominee. And if you haven't really been paying much attention, the other candidates such as Rick Perry, Michelle Bachman, John Huntsman, and Herman "999" Cain have dropped out. It's basically come down to Romney vs Gingrich now.

I'm behind Romney all the way. Yes I have my issues with him, but there is no such thing as the perfect candidate.

Republican voters tend to focus too much on the Biblical issues(abortion, gay marriage, prayer in school.....) and liberal voters tend to support those that are on the other side. While I generally side with republicans on those issues I'm not basing my vote on them. For one they are the least of our problems and two no president is going to be able to make any major changes with them. A good president will look out to everyone and not just their base. I think Romney as a moderate will look out for us conservatives as well as the progressives. Remember that Regan as liberal on many issues too.

Gingrich is a good debater, but will still have a hard time beating Obama.

Yeah, both sides focus on those issues too heavily, and they always seem to be brought to the forefront of an election. Right now here in the state of Washington, despite our economy being in horrible shape and our state's spending being out of control...the Democrats here are making gay marriage the center of the upcoming election. Our economy should be priority number 1 right now. The things I'm personally most concerned about are the economy, jobs, balancing the budget, fuel independence, securing our border, fixing our broken tax system, and keeping our military strong.
