It really depends on what company you're looking at; there's WWF, WCW/NWA, WCCW, AWA, etc.
I'll go with a small list from the big two. Remember that when I reference the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), I am referring to the WHOLE Alliance; the NWA was basically the governing body of all of the wresting promotions up to the late '80s, until Vince McMahon broke away in the mid-80s and started invading territories to take wrestlers:
WWF:
1) Randy Savage - Currently wrestling in NWA-TNA, releasing bad rap albums, and calling out Hulk Hogan
2) Jake Roberts - Promising wrestling career cut before it's prime by alcohol abuse.
3) Ultimate Warrior - Couldn't wrestle to save his life (naturally, at 9 years old, I didn't care), and my GOD, is he NUTS.
4) Rick Steamboat - Known as "The Dragon" back then, he had the greatest WWF match I've ever seen at Wrestlmania 3 with Randy Savage. Runs a wrestling school now.
5) Hulk Hogan - Yeah, I liked him, but I really didn't buy into Hulkamania. Indipendent worker now, last seen in NWA-TNA.
NWA/WCW:
1) Ric Flair - It doesn't get better than The Nature Boy. Period.
2) Rick Steamboat - His WWF run was nothing compared to his NWA days. His matches with Ric Flair were the greatest of all time.
3) Dusty Rhodes - One of those guys who I have a lot less respect for now that I'm "smart" to how things really were.
4) Roddy Piper - Forget his WWF days. He was better in the NWA.
5) Harley Race - I could dig heels back then, and Harley was the best.
