Slightly off topic but I know McDonald's did a Christmas ornament promotion for The Rescuers Down Under.

Yep, they did. I was 6 at the time and we got Bernard and Bianca ornaments. I make a point to get them on the Christmas Tree every year, even after 20+ years.

As for my somewhat obscure Disney favs, here's the short list. I'll start with the full-length animated films.

The Great Mouse Detective (1986)- First saw it in theaters during a re-release in 1991. Thought it was ok there, but it's grown into my favorite film in the "Canon" over the past 10 years.

Robin Hood (1973)- It's just got that '70s feel that's quirky as heck. Always liked the music as well.

101 Dalmatians (1962)- Saw this originally in a 1991 re-release in theaters, then got it for Christmas. Always liked the film. I realize that it's not that obscure, especially after they made the live action version (which was ok, I guess) and the animated series.

A Goofy Movie (1995)- Underrated. Based on Goof Troop from the Disney Afternoon, which was probably my 3rd or 4th favorite Disney Afternoon cartoon (behind Chip n' Dale's Rescue Rangers, Ducktales and possibly Tale Spin). I think Max and PJ were a couple of years older in this movie than they were in the series. The show would have been a little more enjoyable to watch had the kids been a little older.

    Live-Action stuff:
Heavyweights (1995)- Saw this alone in the theater when I was 11. I liked it then, and it has grown in stature since then, mainly because of Ben Stiller delivering one of his most epic performances of his career (legitimately) as Tony Perkis.

Cool Runnings (1993)- Saw this in theaters, too. I don't think I fully understood it when I was 9-ish. Lots of stuff goes over the heads of kids in that movie.

A Kid in King Arthur's Court (1995)- I thought this was ok, but almost no one remembers it. Starred Thomas Ian Nicholas as a little league baseball player (two years after he did Rookie of the Year) that falls down a hole and lands in Camelot.

    Honorable Mention:
Hocus Pocus (1993)- Not terrible. Saw it at school in 5th grade. At the time the movie came out in theaters, I already had a crush on the girl that ended up as that dude's love interest (Vinessa Shaw) in the film from when she was Kimberly Mullen in Ladybugs. Sue me. I was 8 back then.

Another rarely mentioned Disney movie I liked is "Airborne". Airborne has Seth Green and Jack Black in it.

The Fighting Prince Of Donegal is really good. It's sort of like a 50s version of Braveheart. A lot of fun.

I like Airborne, but it's a Warner Bros. movie.

I liked Robin Hood too, but for most Disney fans, it gets a bad rap for being probably of the cheapest movies ever made by Disney due to the fact that though out the whole movie it just totally reused animation over and over, even from past Disney movies like the Jungle Book.

At the time, Disney was in money trouble, so reusing animation seem like a good idea at the time.

    The Aristocats, definitely.

Its just straight quality, no gimmicks. Great songs, good characters, fantastic hand-drawn animation, a chinese stereotype. And the kittens are so cute too.

This one is a guilty pleasure for me but I love the Return of Jafar. I loved the first Aladdin movie and the fact of them making a sequel to me was just so awesome. Plus it has Abis Mal, that guy just cracks me up. :D

Here's my list of Underrated Disney films

-Song of the South (1946) - has some of the best animation Disney studios has ever done, though it isn't released on DVD, it was released on VHS overseas but not in US due to Disney choosing not to release it because of it's intepertations of black people

-The Sword in the Stone (1963) - Merlin the Magician is awesome!

    - The Great Mouse Detective (1986) - Vincent Price was perfect as the villian

    - Pete's Dragon (1977) - a story about a boy and his pet dragon sounds pretty awesome

    - Muppets Christmas Carol (1992) - this movie doesn't get mentioned hardly unlike the 1970s/1980s Muppet movies (The Muppet Movie is one example). Also it didn't just feature the Muppet Show characters it also included new Muppet characters.

As far as non Disney animation is concerned, any of Don Bluth's animation that's made in the 1990s (such as Rock-A-Doodle) hardly gets any mention whatsoever

Indeed, Aristocats is awesome and i remember seeing the 1987 re-issue 2 times in theaters and loved it, i even had a readalong book with cassette and a stuffed O'Mally doll. Too bad it took 14 years to be on video but it finally did and has been one of my fave disney films since.

    Here's my shortlist:

Robin Hood: It seems pretty unanimous here that this is an all time classic in spite of the bad recycled moments in it. In terms of entertainment value it still stands up today.

More Jungle Book: Far darker than the original and very underrated.

The Rescuers: It is maybe the single darkest Disney movie of all time. That said it was off the charts mixing craziness with extremely dark moments. (I don't think Disney or any other studio that specializes in children's fare has EVER covered child abuse in this manner before or since.)

Songs of the South: It looks horribly racist now but from a historical standpoint it is a milestone because of how groundbreaking it was for it's time. (It was one of the very first movies to depict blacks and whites together in friendly company.)

Silly Symphonies: Grasshopper and the Ants in particular was one of Walt's finest works but Disney never really covers the really old stuff, (prior to 1950,) all that much anymore when releasing stuff on DVD and Blu Ray.

Three Caballeros: Already been mentioned but worth covering again. The Good Neighbor Policy had one thing going for it, it resulted in some absolutely sublime work from Disney.

SPORT GOOFY: Those epic Goofy instructional films, (with that hilariously pompous announcer,) still hold up today and the result was that epic "YAAAAAAHOOHOOHOO" yell!

    LIVE ACTION:

The 3 Lives of Thomasina: One of Hayley Mills' lost gems.

The Black Hole: Laughed out of theatres in 1979 when it came out as it was promoted as "Disney's first R-Rated movie" but the robots were cool beyond words.

Condorman: Don't ask me why but I always loved this one.

The Rescuers Down Under was my favorite movie as a kid. It's horribly underrated though. It was also one of those rare Disney sequels that was better than the original and a non musical at that.

McLeach and Joanna had to be the best Disney villains ever. My icon features them.

    Robin Hood
    The Rescuers
    Oliver and Company
    Polyanna

I think most of the animated Disney movies I like are the underrated ones besides The Little Mermaid.
