I must be the only one who thinks schools/government institutions are taking a step in the right direction by not recognizing religious holidays.

I've seen a lot of hypocrisy in this thread. People would go ape if they're kids were made to participate in say, a Muslim holiday tradition at school.

I think a lot of the animosity in this thread stems from our beloved memories participating in these holidays. Not the social/political implications.

Spoken like a true Generation Y kid :P

Let's keep Jesus' tradition alive and hunt for dyed eggs like they did in the bible!

Yeah, I doubt Jesus gives a crap how we celebrate Easter. He certainly doesn't care when I do the bad things I do on a regular basis.

I know that schools are very careful these days. In pre-k my son didn't have a Halloween Costume Party, he had a "Storybook Charactor Costume Party". Last year during Thanksgiving it was "Fall harvest feast" (Although they DID dress like indians, I was shocked they allowed them to with how people are about that sort of thing these days) and during Easter they had an egg hunt but it was called "Spring party".

The 4th of July will be 'Mid-Summer Explosion Festival'.

Nah, Explosion is too violent a word for the children.

How about Mid-Summer Sky Brightness Celebration! MUCH happier name :P

Fucking prudes. Who the hell cares if you "celebrate" Easter or not? You can still enjoy it with all of the other kids. Oh, except now it's not called Easter. And because of that, they'll feel left out when Easter discussions are about.

Are we really so sensitive we can't recognize the fact that a great majority of the country is Christian, or at least has had an upbringing celebrating Christian holidays, that they're more of a staple of our society than these PC retards try to pretend they are? If I was in a country with a clearly dominant religion like that, I surely wouldn't expect them to cater to my own beliefs and sidestep what is common in their society. Glad I live in the east, the west is where most of the dingbats seem to gather from what I've read.

we're much better off giving them plush toys and easy bake ovens. hell, maybe when glam rock comes back around, we'll start giving them make up.
