Who remembers this awesome underrated fantasy epic from Lucas and Ron Howard? I loved it since i saw it twice in theaters when i was 5 going on 6 when it came out and had some of the merchandise to this movie.

This was a predate to both the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter franchises, in fact, Warwick Davis who plays Willow Urfgood is a player in the Harry Potter series and is a fave among some fantasy fans including J.K Rowlings who used Willow as one of her inspirations.

I remember being really freaked out by the scene where everyone was turned into pigs ( I was 8 when I saw it). Other than that it was a great movie. Next to Han Solo, Mad Marigan is the ultimate rogue

Anyone thinks it's as good as Lord of the Rings Trilogy?

Not even close, but it's still a great movie. I actually just rented it not too long ago.

Well, is not as good as the trilogy but is not that far either. I think is not fair to compare a movie "based" on a novel, who already has its own fully-world created, to another one made basically conceived without such solid foundation.

I've never been the biggest Val Kilmer fan but I did enjoy this movie a fair bit. My tenth grade English teacher had us watch this then write a paper on the themes of courage and heroism displayed in this movie.

It's a fantasy classic in my house.

Fun fact: There's a trilogy of novels following the events of the film, here's the Wiki info....

Lucas outlined the Chronicles of the Shadow War trilogy to follow the film and hired comic book writer/novelist Chris Claremont to adapt them into a series of books. They take place about fifteen years after the original film and feature the now teenage Elora Danan as the central character.

    2. Shadow Dawn (1996) ISBN 055357289X
    3. Shadow Star (2000) ISBN 0553572881

    I enjoyed Willow!

I actually own it on DVD. I got it quite a while ago.

The NES game of Willow was bizarre. I remember renting it and not fully knowing what to do even with instructions.

It seemed that Willow could die too easily...

The trilogy books were quite good sequels to Willow.

But you gotta admit how Tolkein inspired this movie is.

Most epic/sword n sorcery movies are inspired by Tolkien's works.

Are they good? I'll check 'em out if I ever see one in a used bookstore.

And basically, everything after Tolkien is similar. I don't know how he did it, but the man invented modern Fantasy and nothing else is original now.

I remember watching willow. I think I rented it on VHS. I also owned the NES game (still have it, somewhere). It was definitely a strange game, but one that I really liked. Did you ever use the teleportation code?

I remember seeing this in the theatre, I also remember rumours -- at least where I was living -- that there'd be a sequel.

I haven't seen the movie in years, maybe I'll track down a copy.

Would you believe, I never knew about the books, will have to track them down.

I think you would've liked the arcade version a lot better!

I think this movie was made as propaganda in an attempt to convince everyone that 'little people' aren't, in fact, progeny of some evil, waddling race of plump-limbed bridge dwellers.
