looks like it's been a while since i've posted on this forum. anyway, i have an acer 3050 laptop, 2006 model, and last night as i was logged in the adapter stopped charging and the battery icon had shown up, with the power slowly draining. At first I tried unplugging and plugging back in the adapter cord, and then i tried moving the cord in different places to see if that would get it charging again. unfortunately neither worked and the battery eventually ran out of power. i still get a hum from the little box that's with the adapter cord if i plug it in, but the laptop doesn't recognize it. do i need to replace my battery or get the adapter plug replaced?

Could be the adapter, plug, or battery. My money's on one of the first two. Take out the battery and see what happens. That'll totally take it out of the equation.

Another idea, though fairly obvious, try another electrical socket.

Test the end of the adapter with a multimeter if you have one.

it possibly COULD be the battery, i already purchased and tried a replacement adapter and it didn't do squat. if a new battery doesn't happen to work i'll just trash it and get a new one. the thing's four years old anyway

Does the laptop work with the power supply plugged in, but just doesn't charge the battery? If not I'm pretty sure it is the power supply. Mine went out on my Dell a few month back. Mine would still power the computer, but the battery would not charge. I kept getting a message that I had the wrong a/c adapter connected. I would try a new power adapter.

Yes if a new battry doesn't work is as good as trash. Unfortunately most of the time a four year old laptop is near downfall. Most are meant to endure around five years tops.

well to update, i purchased a replacement ac adapter made specifically for my acer laptop, and it didn't work. i've also heard that taking the battery out while the adapter is plugged in should have the laptop still working, but that didn't do squat either. i have yet to even try a new battery, but i'm still investing in one. if that doesn't work i'll look around best buy for a brand new laptop

wow, get this. so i recently got a new factory sealed battery in the mail, it worked for a while, but it still wouldn't recharge. a new battery doesn't work, and a replacement adapter plug doesn't work. i guess i'll just have to trash the thing

Sounds like the power supply is bad
