Watch this 1937 Mickey Mouse cartoon and you'll hear him playing the Weissenborn guitar:
The Weissenborn, invented in the 1920s by Hermann Weissenborn, a German immigrant luthier residing in California via New York, is a species of lap steel guitar that sounds like a cross between the resonator (aka "Dobro") and the Hawaiian slack-key guitar. Coincidentally, the luthier did in the same year as the release of this cartoon!
