The resale value of Fords as of late is absolutely ridiculous...

In an attempt to bring this old forum back to life, I have noticed that the resale value as of late for Fords is getting a bit ridiculous. Seriously? You put a billion miles on a Windstar, Taurus, or a Five Hundred, and you can sell it for over $5000 (near $10000 in the case of the Five Hundred) at a dealership?? SERIOUSLY?!

Taurus is a piece of crap. It's INCREDIBLY rare seeing one on the road today. Same for Wind/Aero stars.

Perhaps it's just locality, I've seen a fair amount of Tauruses and a few Windstar's ( not that many ) around where I am. A friend of mine owns one, and a different friends' mother owns one.

I don't know what's gone wacko with Ford resale prices but the same holds true in my neck of the woods. People and dealerships can ask whatever they like. It's who pays up that gets me mad. Just throw the money away.

I still have my 2000 Taurus I bought brand new and it has been very good to me. The only major work was having to get the heater core replaced. It still runs perfectly.

It just isn't Fords Link, used car prices in general are up.

Used car prices go up when people have shitty credit and therefore can't buy new. It's just like the stock market, if a lot of people start to buy shares in a certain company, the price goes up and if they are all of a sudden dumping them off to others, the price drops.

As far as Tauruses go, the new ones are absolutely awesome cars. The SHO model is one i would love to own if i could spare the money. It has a twin-turbo charged, 365-HP V6.

If they put that motor in the Fusion and gave it a 6 speed manual, I'd be all over it. A 4000lb car with paddle shifters doesn't do it for me.

    Well it's not a supercar, it's a full-sized sedan.

doesn't look full-sized to me... just a bigger, bloated Fusion.

and Hans, V6 cars usually don't get manual transes. get over it.

Lunk, there are plenty of V6's with manuals. I drive one.

The first and second gen SHO's came with 5 speeds, which is part of the reason I think this version should have a third pedal. It's an enthusiasts car and enthusiasts like a stick. And Lunk, don't get uppity about car knowledge with me. I still remember this thread:

It's considered a full-size sedan these days. There aren't that many bigger cars coming off of production lines anymore.

It's a big car. Doesn't look it from a distance, but up close, it's pretty huge.

I should've specified modern (anything made in the last 5-10 years) sedans and minivans, sorry. I figured that was implied, given you mentioned something about lack of manual in the new Taurus SHO.

and yes, now that you mention it, the I-6 F-150s came with sticks, dodge Cummins trucks can use a stick, honda accord coupes w/ V6 use sticks too. but still, when was the last time you saw a V6 with a stick in the following:

    Ford Taurus (SHOs don't count)
    Chevy Impala
    Dodge Intrepid
    Chrysler 300
    Chrysler Sebring
    Honda Accord (sedan)
    Toyota Camry
    Mazda 6
    Ford Fusion
    Chevy Malibu
    Hyundai Sonata

as do I, to be honest.
