Is horror really the most popular genre ever?

Because most trilogies last from 5-10 movies, sometimes more. Do you think that this genre stands above all of the others?

Maybe because of its simplicity in making it. Just think of something people are afraid of and boom! you have a franchise:

Afraid of masked attackers/executioners?: F13, TC Massacre, Halloween
Afraid of nightmares?: Nightmare on elm street
    Afraid of clowns?: Killer Klowns

    etc,

Besides its cheaper in terms of production, (I guess..... Next to porno's) because I rarely hear of 'Big-Budget horror flick' .
Tell me how I'm supposed to breathe with no air?

As thabz said, it's not that the millions of sequels are particularly in-demand, it's that they're cheap to make and can usually make a profit from the title alone. The only people who still see them by the fourth sequel are retarded teenagers and lame dates.

This is not the only genre... action movies tend also to fill the cherry till it pops.

    How many Rambo's/Rocky's there are...?

Not to mention Chcuk Norris ever present POW/military character.

Most horror movies are made on the cheap. Hell if you go the direct to video route even cheaper. I think the most expensive thing is like the monster/killer costume.

I don't think you can really count it when every production's big budget and follows a continuous storyline. And besides, other than those and a few other series, most don't have more than two sequels.

Yes, because slasher movies allow directors to release their hatred of characters they based on those who bullied them in school

Mmh well yeah... but is still a genre that tends to do unecessary sequels.
