It was released in 1990 but for some reason I still put it in the 80's.

Hanson - MMMbop (when your balls haven't dropped)
I can't think of anything worth putting as a signature.

I'm more of an 80s fan that was a 90s Gen X'er. Not sure why, but I never really got into my own generation of music.

But.. there were still a few that stuck out.

      Dinosaur Jr.
      Ned's Atomic Dustbin
Faith No More (80s band really that carried on into the 90s)
      The Shamen
Nirvana (late 80s carried into the 90s obviously)
Anthrax (80s to 90s, persistence of TIme I think was 90s)
Smashing Pumpkins first 2 albums, after that I didn't care for them
The Flaming Lips early stuff 80s to 90s
Mercury Rev early stuff, none of their new stuff

Here's what I wonder. Do you consider a band like The Smashing Pumpkins an 80s band since they started in the 80s in the same way you'd consider Peter Gabriel an 80s artist? Or do you consider them a 90s band because they were not broadly mainstream and trendy till the 90s?

^ I consider them a 90's band because that's when they got their big break.

Vanilla Ice - Ice, ice baby (I still know the lyrics to this day :D)
TLC - Baby, baby, baby (after being reminded by a Jason Derulo song which sample this one)

It's literally impossible to boil down a decade into one track.

But for a while I was obsessed with a track called "3 Strange Days" by School of Fish. Cool song.

Or "That Song" by Big Wreck

There are soooo many that I love because I love 90s music but my absolute faves, which are also my three favorite songs of all time, are "Stand Out" and "I2I" from A Goofy Movie and "You Gotta Be" by Des'ree. Those songs complete my life. I also love Tracy Chapman's entire New Beginning album and anything by the Spice Girls.

Music is so subjective that this is a loaded question. From a cultural standpoint, one could argue that the most important songs of the '90s came from acts like Nirvana or The Notorious BIG. All I can say that my favorite song is from a lesser known band.

    Porcupine Tree - "Stars Die"
