I've been reading through Robert Jordan's Eye of the World, and it reminds me of Lord of the Rings. Like much other epic fantasy, I have a hard time really setting myself into the world because of this fact. I've read through the original Shannara trilogy and loved it. I don't really know what point I'm trying to make at the moment....
My main peeves about Fantasy books, are that most of them are in a series that the length of which frighten me. The names of characters and settings are a nightmare to remember. And most of all, the plot is buried under the need to over explain magic systems and history. Tolkien explained these things as they story was going and therefore you except it without really knowing.
Anyway, what are some of your pics for vintage fantasy? .
