What could be said about the first operating system I ever saw? (keep in mind the first operating system I ever OWNED was Windows 95). Windows 3.1 was released in 1992 and became the first widely-used Windows version.

I still remember seeing Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (networking version of 3.1) on my aunt's Gateway 2000 back in 1995. Boy those were some fun times, playing Sierra games and Freddi Fish.

Windows 3.1/3.11 was succeeded by Windows 95 on August 24, 1995, another amazing operating system.

What are some of your memories of Windows 3.1? :)

It was on the old Compaq, which I had some fun with. The first OS I remember using is actually Windows 95.

We use to play Wolfenstein 3D on it at school in our Production Systems class. I don't know how it got on the computer, but it was there and the teacher let us play. We also had a mini CNC machine and robotic arm that ran off of 3.1. Myself and my friend learned a lot about it messing with those programs.

I too knew a few people that had Windows for Workgroups and played around with it too. I had customers that still used it all the way till the mid 2000s. We finally stopped supporting it all together.

Mid 2000? Believe it or not, Microsoft continued to supply Windows 3.11 to OEMs until November 2008!
