Harvey Pekar was one of the most important figures in the world of underground comic books. His book American Splendor was an autobigraphical comic book. The one that drew the most attention, was Our Cancer Year, which he wrote while suffering from lymphoma. He was also a frequent guest on David Letterman throughout the 80's. The movie American Splendor was based on his life and he was played by Paul Giamatti.

That's too bad, I hadn't known his cancer had returned. Harvey Pekar was also a music reviewer, his work featured in Downbeat magazine. American Splendor is an excellent film, I've seen it about 5 times and recommend it highly.

Harvey Pekar was a true comics legend. I shall watch American Splendor in his honor tonight.
