I agree Caps. This is a very vague question and it greatly depends on the context.
I do trust the government to protect us from other countries invading us and other hostile takeovers. I think they have done a pretty good job of it. Look at other countries and just how much worst things could be. People always want to bash the USA, but the quality of living is far superior to most of the world. With that being said you can't trust the government to take care of you. This means you need your own job, insurance, motor vehicle, home and weapon for protection when police are not around. As events like Karina showed us you can't rely on the government to take care of you.
I support very limited government and I don't trust them to run my life. I don't buy these beliefs that they are trying to destroy us either. So it just depends what you mean.
