I always thought having a police presence in your establishment is a good thing. This is why we always gave them free food. In turn never got fined for false alarm when someone accidently hit the hold up button and had a quick response when we had trouble.

Wow I guess when your customer basis is druggies and homeless people who hate the cops, having a cop in there hurts buisness.
    What a great establishment!!

I don't see the problem. Its their right to NOT have cops in the place. And the cop got his coffee. His money wasn't refused. I think he was little butthurt that he didn't get any free coffee.

I think a better way of handling it would be to take the officer to the side and let him know that having cops hanging around is bad for business. This should have been said along with a free cup of coffee. "I don't mind you guys coming here..........please don't take this personally, but some of the customers don't feel comfortable with cops around." "If you guys don't mind try not to hang around too long after you get your order" The cop would have gotten the hint that his presents was not preferred and it would not have made the national news. Asking him to leave with no explanation was wrong.

Personally I liked having the cops around and they never bothered any of our customers, even the irate ones.

That owner sounds like an asshole if you ask me. I'm not the biggest fan of the police, but if he was just getting a cup of coffee and not causing any problems he should be treated the same as any other customer. I hate discrimination and don't like it even when it's done to police officers. I wonder if dude can sue or something?
