All of them are terrible picks in my opinion.

Seriously, there's got to be thousands of better candidates for Peter Parker out there.

Not to be anti-Semitic or anything, but would it kill Hollywood to pick a non-jewish actor?

If I had to choose a teenaged Spidey, I'd go with this douche

    Landon Liboirin

If it was up to me I would cast Anton Yelchin A.K.A. Charlie Bartlett, A.K.A Kyle Resse from Terminator Salvation, A.K.A Chekov from The Star Trek reboot. I think this kid has some pretty good acting chops. Either way whoever they cast they have to remember they need to cast PETER PARKER not Spider-Man.

Take everything about Spider-Man. Without naming any physical appearances, name off things like his personality, his characteristics, his lifestyle, his backstory, etc.

Now tell me how any of those things = specific to any ethnicity
If Donald Glover fit the part, I see no logical reason why that couldn't happen.

And Dyz, Echinda, those Thor/Black Panther examples are so ridiculously naive and unrelatable to this topic that I'm not even going to go into it. Just take my challenge above and get back to me.

    Sure thing

Spider-man is a multi-tiered character... Peter Parker's akward moments are only one small part of his character (which Donald Glover would nail).

However, when it comes to fighting villains, and creating a believable revenge storyline; I think that these things are beyond him.

I apologize, I was gonna type in a qualifier about it's not b/c he's black, but I decided to just not mention race altogether.

We live in a day when race is no longer a factor when it comes to casting. However, there are some cases in which race play an integral part of the story. Like I said before a white lead wouldn't make any sense being the ruler of Wakanda (Black Panther). Or a black Norse God doesn't make much sense either.

I'd be all for a black Peter Parker but he's got to be convincing on all fronts.

Like I couldn't imagine Donald Glover reinacting the venom transformation without it looking like a parody

Having a black Peter Parker is completely retarded. It goes against what has been established in the books and through comic book history. Its on par of making Catwoman black, just because she was in the tv series. Oh wait...they already did. And we saw what a failure THAT was.

Need I remind anyone of the stupidity that came from Will Smith's mouth? The stuff about making Captain America black? Just because he read Truth: Red, White, and Black, doesn't mean it should be made into a movie.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truth:_Red,_White_%26_Black

Granted, its a good read. But the general audience wouldn't embrace it.

OK I'll give you that. Your concern is with Donald Glover the actor, not Donald Glover the "OMG HE'S BLACK HE DOESN'T"T LOOK LIKE A PETER PARKER ZOMG." And that's a fair assumption, seeing as how we really don't know how he'd do in a more dramatic type role.
But to play devil's advocate, Spidey in the comics talked shit to the villains soooooo much that they'd get distracted by him not shutting the fuck up, leading to their defeat. I'm not saying make him a nonstop wise-cracking pun machine, but if they said they wanted to resemble more of the source material like all the fanboys are begging for, so having someone that could insert just a bit more sarcasm and humor into the big screen version of Spidey would work (like in The Spectacular Spider-Man series).

    ....surrrre....

That's why I said those two were bad examples, because totally agree with you on those two. A Thor or a Captain America wouldn't work flipping the races because of the history/setting of the story/personality traits would be contradicted.
But Peter Parker is like the ultimate Everyman that ANYONE can relate to, really. He's just a normal dude having a rough life who happens to get superpowers to get revenge on his uncle's death (that he blames himself for) and fight the superbaddies; all the while his personal struggles outweigh anything he has to go up against with the villains.

So we're somewhat on the same page then. It doesn't HAVE to be Donald Glover, but if someone of another ethnicity could pull off Peter Parker, I don't see why that person shouldn't get the opportunity to play him.
    -------------------------------
As for the Catwoman movie...there were a LOT more problems with that abomination than making her black again.

This is why the Will Smith's and Tyler Perry's of the world frustrate me :x

There's too much emphasis on him being black. It's like we have to have "our own" version of said superhero or whatever to identify with. When their race changes, so does most his personality. And that's what I hate when they flip races in most movies/shows/whatever. It's only meant to "blackify" or "whiteify" or "whatevergroupify" a character, dipping into old tropes, cliches, and stereotypes. And sometimes they even delve into finding some BS "reason" to justify why said character isn't this certain color and make it a big deal, usually leading to the rest of the total package lacking substance.

It's okay to make a badass who happens to be black.
It's okay to make a lone ranger who just happens to be Hispanic.
It's okay to make a power ring bearer that shoots out green magic stuff who just happens to be Asian.

Just make a cool likable character and everything will fall into place regardless of looks.

Yes, the same rules apply to villains too. And sidekicks. And whatever character archetype you can throw out 8)

And it would indeed be pretty funny to show a split screen of their initial reactions watching a trailer of a potential movie like that
