The Evil Dead trilogy is my favorite in terms of sheer entertainment (especially the commentary tracks on the DVDs - hilarious); but everybody knows the original Star Wars trilogy is king of all trilogies.

BUT...on its own The Godfather is the greatest single movie in a trilogy, followed closely by Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I *would* say the original Star Wars trilogy, but after Lucas removed the dancing Ewoks I want to kick him in the teeth. So, I'm going with Indiana Jones.

LOTR. The original star wars trilogy is second for me, and again, only for Jedi... New Hope and Empire totally own that third one.

The best movie trilogy is the old, the best, and the original Star Wars Trilogy. Before there was the Special Edition when George Lucas redid some scenes and made some characters more realistic and when Greedo shoots before Han Solo.

I like all of those trilogies, I can't really decide.

    1. Back to the Future
    2. Star Wars (original and prequel)
    3. Indiana Jones
    5. Lord of the Rings
    6. Die Hard
    7. Godfather
    8. Evil Dead
    9. Eastwood/Leone Western (Fistfull of Dollars, Few Dollars More, The Good the Bad and the Ugly)

Also, nobody mentioned the Matrix trilogy.

The reason I didn't list either Die Hard or Godfather was because I don't consider them trilogies, although technically they are. The reason why I don't see them as trilogies is because each had a film that I thought was terrible. There were movies that were so far detached from the essence of the other films that, to me, are not even part of the story line of the other movies.

I hated Die Hard 2 with a passion, the first and third were fantastic. But I can't even stand to have the 2nd one playing on my tv. It disgusts me. The same goes for Godfather 3. Nothing at all like the first two, and I just can't stand to see it on my tv.

Die Hard 2 and Godfather 3 are the illigitimate children.

Oh and the same goes for Jaws. Jaws 3 was awful. So very very awful.

Also, the thread asks, "What's the best trilogy?" not "How many trilogies can you name?"

    The Bourne Trilogy
Die hard has 4 films now but i do love those movies i'd add the Lethal weapon movies (which also have 4 but hey if diehard can be listed so can Lethal Weapon) and would definitly say Star Wars original is certainly the most influential.

As a side note I've always wanted to see a third movie in the fugitive/US Marshalls series Sam Gerard is one of my favorite movie characters ever.
