The media sure is against it except Fox New of course.

I always said they should only be checking if someone is legal is if they are arrested for a crime. The police should not be profiling or otherwise trying to enforce the federal law.

    Thoughts?

I agree with you for the most part. I feel it's unfair to do that because it sound too much like "racial profiling" to me. Like you said, the only time one should be checked to see if he/she is legally here or not is if he/she is arrested for a crime.

But but... we need to get the illegals out of here! also we seem to protect illegals and criminals over the common person.

oh yeah, Ohio wants to pass a similar law.

And Jupi, would you want an illegal taking a job from a legal american? I sure as hell don't

Oh yeah, y'all seem to forget that there's OTHER people that hop the border... NOT just Mexicans.

While i agree that profiling is insensitive, what are ya gonna do?

If you are trying to weed out child molesters, and know that child molesters are mostly white males between the ages of 25-50, would it make sense to investigate ten 75 year-old asian women for every ten 25-50 white males? Sounds like a reckless waste of time.

But this is Arizona...the ones to be profiled probably will be the Hispanics, and imo, that's still unfair and too close to "racial profiling" to me. Unless the person does something wrong, then you check out said person's background.

That aside, I don't know why people have all this paranoia of "illegals" take jobs from "legal citizens" or natural born Americans when it seems that most of the jobs the supposed "illegals" take are the ones that the natural born Americans wouldn't want anyway. I seriously couldn't see an illegal immigrant taking away jobs like say from teachers, doctors, lawyers, etc.

I'd be more concerned about companies sending work overseas before illegal immigrants taking jobs away from me...especially jobs I probably wouldn't have ventured into applying for in a general sense.

Of course. What, did you really expect undocumented immigrants from say, I don't know, Lithuania to be right outside the borders of Mexico? I don't think so. Also, why on earth should police wait for them to commit a violent crime to determine if they're illegal and send them back when it could've been prevented?

I don't think it matters what jobs they take. The point is, they're illegal, they don't belong here. They didn't bother to get their greencards as well as other proper documentation.

I feel that it's racial profiling or too close to it. "Oh, that person looks Mexican, better check to see if he's legal or not." Unless there's literal probable cause, I see no point in checking everyone.

As for the second part there, I'm not condoning it, and you're right, they shouldn't be here, but I'm just saying that I find outsourcing more of an issue than illegal immigrants taking jobs that I wouldn't have thought twice about applying for anyway.

They've got to crack down on illegal immigration somehow, and this law is a good start. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.

By the way, an Arizona deputy was shot by an illegal immigrant with an AK-47 earlier today. That will probably get even more people to rally around the new law.

There have been some needed changes to the bill that were signed today. Hopefully it will keep it from going to the supreme court.

It always seemed strange to me why immigrants before these times were never deported. Unless of course President Wilson didn't like them.
