In later episodes the character of Bernice's long lost, friendlier and genetler sister Beverly was added for Nancy Travis, the voice of Bernice to do because Nancy wasn't used to voicing someone as angry, bitter and meanspirited as Bernice and wanted to be able to voice someone truer to her personality.
You're about to see why I call myself a "cartoon geek," . Not to be nit-picking, but nothing you said was correct.
Actually the "long, lost, friendier sister" has been seen with Nancy Travis voicing her in the very first episode of Duckman, where Duckman was feeling guilt over his late wife's death and their anniversary was coming up. She appeared (as Marge Simpson) when Duckman and Cornfed were watching "home movies" (actually Duckman acting in parts of cartoon's history up to that point which were Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie, Popeye, Yogi Bear, and the Simpsons) and later in a dream/vision Duckman had. By the way the long lost wife's name is Beatrice, not "Beverly." So it had nothing to do with the whole Nancy Travis wanting to voice someone more like herself, that would actually make her an awful actor (which of course she isn't) if she only wanted to protray characters that were like herself.
Also the character of Beatrice was NEVER added to the principle cast, as you have implyed. She was seen in flashbacks from time to time and in the final episode where many characters were getting married including Bernice and King Chicken, it was shown that Beatrice was actually alive. It was never explain why or how she was actually alive all this time.
And one more side note, the whole idea of Duckman having a dead wife and his late wife stating in her will that her twin sister live with Duckman and her kids (Ajax, Charles and Mambo) was something thought of only for the show. In the Dark Horse comics the cartoon was based off, Duckman's wife is alive and well.
