Computers: what do you use?

Give us your specs: OS, RAM, Processor, etc. Do you like your computer? What would you recommend?

I'm looking at a new computer as a Christmas gift to myself. Currently running on a 5 year old Dell Latitude Laptop and it is lagging in its performance. Intel Pentium processor 1.70GHz and 512 MB of RAM. It is slow as hell. I had considered switching to Mac OS but cannot justify the price. My general needs are web surfing, YouTubing, and some online gaming (not much).

I have looked at Consumer Reports, read tons of reviews, looked in stores and online. It's just so confusing.

Anyway...thoughts? I know there are some tech savvy people here. :D

Optimus regularly sends me e-mails keeping track of Megatron's whereabouts.

What are you talking about?! Just look, it has a question mark at the end of the question. it clearly doesn't know the answer.
But it says nice things when you get the answer right. :)

Ah, didn't see the recommendation part. Well, in my experience HP brand computers have never really given me any trouble. Most computers nowadays probably have Windows 7 loaded on them which I hear is a big improvement over Vista. Never used it myself.

And yea, Macs are much more expensive than what they're worth.

    My main computer:
    Dell Optiplex GX150
    Intel Pentium III 1GHz
512 MB of RAM (Upgraded from 256 MB)
    40 GB Hard Drive
Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 128 MB AGP Graphics card (Upgraded from Onboard Intel 82815, so i could have widescreen resolutions on my 20" wide screen)
Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP3 (Upgraded from Windows 2000)

Its served me pretty well, its from 2002, and has worked nicely since I got it in 2005. It got kind of slow due to sheer amount of crap, so I did a fresh install of XP in April, and upgraded the RAM in September, and now it works flawlessly. I'd buy another Dell.

    My Laptop
    Compaq Armada 1750
    Intel Pentium II Mobile 300MHz
    128 MB of RAM
I have 2 hard drives for it, one (4 GB) has Windows 2000 SP4, the other (6 GB) dual-boots Puppy Linux and Windows 98 SE.

The reason I have 2 hard drives is because I had another identical laptop, which fell apart. The screen was the first thing to go. I used the 98/Puppy one until last night, because with my new internet router I can only use one wireless card, which doesn't support 98 at all, and won't work with WEP encryption in Puppy. 2000 used to run like shit, but I did a lot of deleting and now its fairly usable, thanks in large part to Firefox 3.5. Being that a laptop from ten years ago still functions today, that's saying alot for the quality of compaqs. Now, bear in mind that this a pre-HP merger machine.

    BUMP

I bought myself a new Desktop today. It's really low end, but it really only needs to last me 2 years, once I get to college I'm gonna need a good laptop. I kind of wanted to build my own PC, but I couldn't build something as good or better for $279.

    Compaq Presario CQ5500F
    AMD Sempron 140 2.7 GHz
    2GB of RAM
    500GB Hard Drive
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I've had it about 9 hours, and so far so good. There wasn't much crapware, just some HP Helper thing which I promptly disabled.

Unfortunately, like many other new PCs, no recovery media is included. I hope HP put decent hard drives in these things.

2010 iMac w/ 1 3.06 GHz processor, 2 cores, 4GB of memory (1067 MHz RAM), 500GB space, 1.07GHz Bus Speed with Intel Core 2 Duo running Mac OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard.

As to what that means, I have NO idea, it's just what the System Profiler says.
